Upgrade and Maintenance Abstinence Syndrom.

I have run out of DIY projects within my budget and competence. Now I have to content myself with driving a car that looks great and handles even better. Its a fantastic driving machine.

Still. I thought I would be happy once the project on my initial list was accomplished. I am not. I long to dig in again.

I am seriously contemplating changing the oil and checking the valves again (1500 miles ago), just for the fun of it.

Any more victims of UMAS ?

Or am I just sick...

I understand. Sometimes it's fun to tinker even when nothing is wrong. Sometimes I just go look at stuff, underneath, behind things, that I haven't looked at before.

I have that 'go-look-at-stuff' behavior too. I expect thats one of the cardinal symptoms. Just last night, I spent half an hour lying on my back under the engine and trans - simply gawking at the nooks and crannies. Duh..

I wish I could say I spent hours on the Net looking at Porn, but I am such a twisted fk that all I do is look at is Gun Auctions all day... is there a 12 step program that could make me normal.

I can't finish one project before I start another. So my life is a constant DIY project. The 930 is really close to completion (bleed brakes, build ECU harness, fab SYNC sensor, install engine, fill with oil and start), but I've got kitchen cabinets to finish and they're taking up more room in the garage than the car.

I've been told time and time again, "if you put as much time into your job and/or the stock market as you put into projects, you could afford to pay someone to do all the work for you." But what's the fun in that?

Livi, start cleaning the car; that will never end.

livi 09-10-2006 08:08 AM

Thats the odd thing. As much as I enjoy wrenching - I absolutely hate cleaning, waxing and detailing in general. Same as making the bed. The result doesnŽt last more than a couple of rides - if she is any good.. ;)

Livi, I think you need another car.

livi 09-10-2006 11:50 AM

Yes, I would like a long hood. Most beautiful lines ever invented on a car designers drawing board, as far as I am concerned.

Unfortunately, that does not fall under "within my budget".

Edit: Nor within my competence, come to think of it..

Wayne, IŽll paraphrase Porsche when Vic Elford asked for spare parts before a European rally:

- " A Porsche doesnŽt brake." ;)

Stijn, thanks for the tip !
