Reno Air Races Anyone?

Just curious if any Pelicans will be out at Reno this weekend? I'm heading out to enjoy some cool, dry weather and painfully loud Pratt & Whitneys. If so, let me know and I'll PM you my cell and maybe hook up for lunch or a beer. tnx, Ken

The last few years I've been telling myself I've got to get back down again. This will be another year I won't make it.

Next year for sure.

I usually try to make it but am about 7400 miles too far East! Take lots of pictures!

Tell us how the sport class races turn out. That and the Red Bull stuff (yipe! cool to watch, but not exactly racing.....kinda like freestyle skiing) are the wave of the future and may actually bring the sport a large audience once again, albeit never as large as it was in the 30's. I hope that the Nemesis NXT teams have the kinks worked out. Kinda boring watching the Lancairs win all the time. The Thunder Mustangs never really amounted to much with those NA V12 Falconer motors at that altitude in Reno. Makes for a 15-20% loss in power......like when us NA 911 guys drive over Newfound Gap. One guy was actually running a separate, 2 stroke engine powered supercharger a couple of years ago on one of the regular aircooled planes to get sea level horsepower at Reno without getting the parasitic drag.....kinda silly, but innovative nontheless. Somebody told me last year at Sun n' Fun that they were working on a turbonormalizing setup for the Thunder Mustang, but I haven't heard anything since. The Lancairs and NXT's make a lot more sense cost and complexity wise anyway. Glad Rare Bear is back. It was getting boring watching the same two Mustangs win the Unlimited Gold race all of the time too....lol

Guys - Yes, I'm sure I'll get some pics but the sound is what attracts me, especially the T-6's and the Unlimited class. Quiet a thrill when they come at you in quantity! They also have a class of jets now. Should be interesting.

I also enjoy walking the pits. If you ever go, get a pit pass.

jdm61, I recognize some of those planes from my last visit, 4 or 5 years ago. Many planes and pilots are regulars. Ken
