What to look for when buying designer lables?

I'll be honest, I'm broke. Not cheap, but I'm reasonably broke; hell, I'm a college student. That said, I still have a reasonable degree of style, and I've recently decided I want a Gucci wallet. I decided to check Ebay, for obvious reasons. But I'm super leary, for obvious reasons. Do any of you guys know how to spot fake Gucci? If the seller shows the serial number and the Gucci authentic card, does that prove it's authentic? I've already ruled out any auction that doesn't show the serial and the Gucci card.

Take, for instance, this auction. It looks pretty damn real, and they show the authentician card. The only thing I don't like is the private feedback on the seller.

I also really like this belt.

So, PPOTers, I'm sure more than a few of you guys/gals have some Gucci. What do you think, are they authentic?

isn't gucci a little too..... metro?

I have no idea. All I know is that the materialistic girls here LOVE designer lables...and if it helps me bang..(god that sounds bad..).

I thought about just buying it at retail until I saw how much it is....

start looking at the salvation army, or what ever thrift stores you have in your area. lots of good stuff at better than reasonable prices.

Do chicks ask you for the last 4 digits of your gucci wallet serial number? I don't understand how this will help you get laid. If you're broke, buy something a little more reasonable.

rammstein 09-14-2006 03:02 PM

You are broke. A gucci wallet will make you more broke, and will not get you laid, and by costing money will make you poorer which makes chicks less likely to bang you. You would be heading in the wrong direction. It is a horrible idea. There, I said it.

They don't ask for it, but I'd be pissed if I spent more money thinking it was real than I could have spent on an obvioulsy fake one. Young girls LOVE seeing designer labels, Coach, Gucci, whatever. Nice clothes and accessories definately help with the girls.

I most probably should buy something more reasonable, or just stick with the fossil. But I'm ugly and I need all the help I can get;)

That's a damned good argument.

In junior high I was striking out big time. So I begged and begged my parents to get me some sweet clothes from the 'expensive' stores. They said fine, YOU pay. So I did. I went to school in those stupid clothes ( I believe there were turqiose pants and some kind of ridiculous shirt with shiny things on it), the chicks didn't bang me, and for a month I had no money to do anything fun. Thats when I decided spending money didn't help me get chicks.

The exception is when the money is spent ON them. Then its a whole new pile of shenanigans.

SlowToady 09-14-2006 03:27 PM

So I should buy them a Gucci bag? There's some girls around here that'd be worth a $250 ebay Gucci bag:-D Kentucky rules...

I struck out big time for a long while and then decided to do something about it my senior year of HS. Enter American Eagle, Hollister, and A & F. Been working decently well so far, but it could be better.

If it wasn't for girls, I'd wear camo and scentlok everywhere.

Perhaps you should ask your, um, 'domestic partner' for advice...

onlycafe 09-14-2006 03:41 PM

it seems that you are heading in the wrong direction, chasing after the wrong type of girl. perhaps you should expand your horizons to include girls that think money is not the most important thing. i know that this may seem pretty radical thought, but think about what landing a paris hilton type would be like over a long period of time. you might do better meeting someone at the laundromat or a supermarket.
remember, what you don't have to spend on a girl can be spent on your car.

BlueSkyJaunte 09-14-2006 03:44 PM

^--- LOL! :D

Poon-chasing aside: If you want a wallet that will outlast you (or at least most other wallets) while remaining classy yet understated, buy a Ghurka. ;)

This is a wise man.

You can try to find a Gucci Emporium, which is where they sell "last year's" merchandise fairly cheap - though that's up for debate. I knew a guy who bought a $3,000 Barney's suit at an emporium for $800.

Otherwise...

...is the right advice.
