Mac help please...
I have been traveling for a while with my G4 and have been backing up important data religiously onto a 1GB memory stick.
When I tried to do this today all I get is a screen that says: "Disk Insertion The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." The screen then gives three options: "Initialize Ignore Eject" I clicked the latter two without success. (The memory stick icon does not appear.) I will not click the first one for fear of deleting everything from the memory stick. The memory stick is far from full, and I have been using it every day for several months without any problem. The data that is on it is very important. Any suggestions on what has gone wrong or what I should do would be much appreciated. |
you can try running disk utility, then inserting the drive, then seeing if disk utility can mount it and/or fix it.

Has the stick been in a PC, by any chance?

Being in a PC should not affect, I regularly move files from a PC to my Mac using thumb drives. Unless of course said PC had a disc erasing virus on it.
I would actually try sticking it in a PC and see if it mounts. If not and Disc Utility does not help then you need a recovery utility. I have one so if there is nothing sensitive on the drive and you want to send it to me as a last resort I'll see what I can recover. I owe the Vancouver contingent a favor. Scott |
