They aren't raffling off an BMW M Roadster? That's weird...

legion 09-15-2006 06:53 AM

When I was up at Road America for ALMS, I picked up an entry blank. I'd probably have to sell the car just to afford the taxes on it, and it would cost more to insure than my three current vehicles combined, so I decided it probably wasn't worth the effort.

You could opt for the $55,000 cash prize instead :)

epbrown 09-15-2006 07:03 AM

It's weird because the BMWCCA is raffling off a Cayman!

Everything I've read leads me to believe that the Cayman S is a great car. I'd love to have one ....

Why the hostility?

jorian 09-15-2006 11:53 AM

Yeah. Other than the name, whats wrong with a Cayman?

I also like the Caymen but it will be many moons before I can afford one.

I think it is just Friday and everyone is grumpy waiting for beer-thirty.

I would love a Caymen for $30,000.00 so for $50.00 this is the deal of the century. I don't understand the hostility towards Porsche on this forum? They can't build air cooled cars any more guys and I'm a air cooled owner !

speeder 09-15-2006 02:07 PM

I saw one of those new BMW M coupes the other day, I'd take that over a Cayman any day. Based on looks alone.

pwd72s 09-15-2006 02:33 PM

No Boxter Hardtop for this cowboy, and I like hardtops....just not Boxster hardtops.

Tervuren 09-16-2006 06:23 AM

The Cayman S is a sexy looking beast out on the street though. They realy pulled a styling winner.

djmcmath 09-16-2006 07:01 AM

I'm less concerned about what it looks like than I am about how quick it is. Just based on automotive theory, a mid-engine RWD car should have awesome handling. Add Porsche's reputation for brilliant engineering and you have the makings of a real winner. The reviews that I've read support that, so far -- a car that handles better than anything they've built yet, with enough power to be a real experience to drive.

So who cares what it looks like?

Same here... I guess some people can't get over the "Boxster is a girlly car" stereotype.

Personally I'm way past worrying about what other people think, it's pitiful way to live your life IMHO. If it is fun to drive and puts a smile on my face and I can afford it I will buy it.

The Boxster is the natural progressing of the 550 spyder... I sure wouldn't mind driving one of those!

I take it one step further - and puts a smile on other's faces as well. I know when two two times I've seen a Cayman, I've loved seeing it. I've never thought of the Boxter as being a girly car. In fact, I'd love to own one. The one I was in at a dealership a few years ago realy impressed me. The whole car is VERY well designed, comfortable, and with lovely controls. I positively loved the gearbox feel - extremely well done.

See my sig. possibly my next Porsche.

I sat in one at the German autofest in Ventura last year and had the exact same impression. The lady I was with looked at the expression on my face and said "why don't you just buy one and get it over with"
