I've never met him, but I bet I would like the guy. He sounds like the real deal; a man concerned about his community and willing to stick his neck out for it. You just have to love the reactions of the asshats at the ACLU, and the decision to press charges by the prosecutor.
"Melton's attorney Dale Danks suggested the charges against the mayor were politically motivated on District Attorney Faye Peterson's part... ...Peterson said she holds no grudge against the mayor, despite his public criticism of her office for not prosecuting crimes more swiftly." Hmm... seems she got right after this one. Another hardened criminal taken off the streets, making her community safer for... other hardened criminals.
What is happening in our country? Has "due process" so far outstripped any form of common sense? Crime rates continue to be unnacceptable and the real criminals seem to be getting more or less a free pass. I don't condone vigilantism, but it sure seems like our criminal justice system has bogged down to a virtually inneffective level. While his actions may be a little missguided, I agree that Melton's heart seems to be in the right place.
