Any Miata Experts here?
I am having clutch issues with my daughter's 93 Miata.
What causes clutch chattering? Most importantly, what would cause the clutch to slip even though everything inside the bellhousing, the pressure plate, etc. are bone dry. The car started to chatter and finally it is beginning to slip! Should I buy ceramic clutch instead of organic for the Miata? Any Miata experts out there? |
You can get this answered quickly and accurately at
http://forum.miata.net/vb/index.php? It's a site like Pelican, but specializing in miata. Most of the people are great and there are plenty of knowledgeable people. My .02. I'm pretty good with miata, but I haven't had to mess with my clutch yet, so I can't answer your question. If it's slipping then you need a new one, but you already knew that. |
Steve,
I have been there---actually, all over the internet! I have not had any luck with the existing posts; however, I should try posting and see what happens. Thanks. |
Did you resurface the flywheel? If so, was it a reputable shop? If not, maybe you should have.

Uh, I don't think that he has repaired it yet.

Perhaps the clutch lining has been glazed from overheating? This could cause chattering.

How old is this daughter, and how long has she been driving a manual? My first thought was that a new manual driver had learned on the thing which is almost always hell on a clutch. If she slips it too much then you end up with Ronbo's suggestion.

Denis, Please laugh with me (not at me) as I have actually replaced the clutch 3 times already (heh heh heh). Long story, but buttom line is that as of the last time, everything inside the bellhousing was dry. |
So, he could be right about overheating. Is overheating cause by too much use of the clutch? I would like to clarify that the chattering is only in the 1800-2200 RPM range, and disappears if I depressed the clutch.
And I was the one who used it the last time as I don't trust it (I would rather be the one stranded in it than my child). BTW, I was sorry for this car I was trying to squeeze out of it "Porsche performance." I am disassembling it in 30 minutes (for the 4th time), and see what is going on. Thanks Guys. |
