How Often Do You Fight With Your Spouse?

I was on the phone today with a friend and I could hear his wife in the background just ripping into him. It was not the first time I have heard her go off. This time it was about leaving the hose attached to the facet or something like that. Anyway he gives it right back to her. I don't think they have ever thrown down but we do have some friends who are into throwing pans and punching. In 9 years of marrage I have never hit my bride nor her me but we do get verbal every so often.

Seems like the more guys I ask the more will tell me that they all get into it from time to time. So, how often do you get into a good ol donnybrook with da mrs? Not a punch fest but rather a down and out pissed off yap fest that has legs for at least a few hours?

I voted every month, but it is more like every couple of months. Personally I think it is healthy. It is always over something trivial. We get it out of our systems and then things are back to normal.

Seems like most manageble fights are over time spent on certain things other than what the spouse thinks are proper or household cleanliness responcibilities. Thats about where we fall in.

We don't have big or huge fights but folks I do know that have the big ones come by way of money concerns, sex or attentiveness.

The huge ones come about around in-law issues, cheating, substance abuse or lies.

A verbal fight is healthy for a marriage. My wife has an opinion and I do value that. Our real challenge has come from raising our kids. That seems to be what we bicker about the most.

Today is our 5th anniversary. We are taking the 911 for a long drive to dinner up north. NO KIDS for the night.

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know. Nookie time!!!!

Not really. We are going to finish up the downstairs bathroom while the kids are gone.

I voted "never" but only because we don't really "fight". We are both very calm, rational people and even when we disagree on something, it never turns into a "fight". We both agree that fighting doesn't really accomplish anything.

We're coming up on our 4 year wedding anniversary in about 2 weeks and so far so good...

Wayne,
We took the 911 to our Sons soccer match last night. At the light was a guy in a duel extended cab pick-up (imagine that in Texas!). He looks down at us and rolls down his window and says hi to us and my wife says hi back using his name. I look over at her and say:

"How do you know him?"

"Oh, thats Ed, hes a stay home Dad. We have gotten together with our kids before. I didn't tell you about him. Oh."

Now Ed looks to be a somewhat good looking guy, in a nice truck which my wife is crazy over trucks (more so than 911s). And come to think about it I do remember her mentioning this really nice guy who is funny and so forth that her and a few of her friends have got'n together with. I paid it no mind at the time.

Flash forward to today. We are invited to a party on Saturday in a very up-scale part of Plano. A CEO of a company has invited us. This also happens to be a person I am ghost writting a book for. This CEO also happens to be very hot and divorced. My wife doesn't know how hot or even that she is divorced only that her and I will have to spend some time at her place (or ours) in the months to come.

It hasn't happened yet but this could be the stuff of a good ol doonybrook!

Not sure what you mean by fight.

My wife and I are both pretty agressive, analytical 'east coast types'. We are not afraid to argue out points VERY agressively. But we are not fighting. Its a good thing, because we rarely have big blowups about things. When we do, its rarely over an issue of substance. Its usually because we are both exhausted and POed at the world in general, and we just get into it over something stupid.

We will have been married 10 years in April, and I can honestly say I married my best friend. She's my queen.

Mike, maybe I should sell you my old Dodge pickup...a toy for your wife? She'd love the single digit gas mileage, and it eats premium because it has high compression.

Paul, our Son would freak over it as well - of course I would 'freak' over the pump visit.

In my ten year marriage I think I've raised my voice once or twice, my wife never has. We have discussions but we don't fight.

Hoot! Probably cost you thou$and$ in gas to drive it to Texas.

Lendaddy? 30+ years here...Cindy & I "discuss" as well. That's because at our age we don't have the energy to fight.

LOL, maybe that's our case as well

We dated for 5 years before marriage though so there were no surprises and no explanations required.

8 years of marriage - can't think of a fight or raised voice.

disagreements - yep - differences over money - or how to spend it, yes.

How do you fight for hours? We've never had a fight that didn't get settled in 20 minutes. It seems like every couple months or so we will get into it, but mostly it's done within 5 minutes.
