Best Quarterback?
No polls here...just asking opinions. Your "best" quarterback...one you have seen play on TV or in person, College and pro.
College: Giving my age away...Terry Baker, Oregon State University. Not a great natural athlete, he won the Heisman mainly on drive and smarts. A very bright guy. Pro: Gotta go with Joe Montana. No need to say why, right?

Kinda hard to top Joe Montana.
I've heard Joe Namath say on a few occasions that his vote was J. Unitas. 'Said JU's passes to a well covered receiver were thrown so that if there was any chance at all that the ball would be caught, his receiver would...and if not, then the coverage was perfect. Also, that he mostly called his own plays. My vote is Dan Marino. I'll drop anything to watch his games - college and pro - on ESPN Classic (ECL). That release, that touch, that "frozen rope", that will/courage/confidence in self. Wow!

You know, kind of like the way T.O. is misunderstood. ![]() I've heard it on good authority that even before he imploded at the professional level, back when he was BMOC at WSU, people in his home town though he was a class A jackoff. It's sad but at least two of my friends that call themselves WSU alumni still defend him. Farve was pretty good in his day but I'd have to go with Montana. "Hey look, there's John Candy". Marino was also a stud. To bad they never tried building a solid, well rounded team around him.

Best what? Throw, run,..? If it is about clutch/wins Joe Cool is/was the man. Never the best at any one particular thing, but winning games.

Jim McMahon, while a real jackass in many respects, was pretty darn good in 1985. He routinely changed plays (which Ditka LOVED) and was excellent at reading defenses.
But for career total, Joe Montana has to take it. Best all-around. |

Marino and Elway had better arms, but it has to be Montana. "The Catch" says it all. Running back on his heels in the corner, can't see downfield very well, but he somehow knows where Clark is, and lofts a floater to a space of about 1 foot by 1 foot where only Clark can catch it.
And when the Niners were down by 5 and inside their own 20 with just a couple minutes to go in their 2nd Cincy Super Bowl, it was a foregone conclusion that Joe would lead them down for the TD. And as Drago said, he even had time to spot John Candy in the stands. As a life-long Niner fan, memories of Joe bring tears to my eyes. Sniff.

Montana, Unitas, and Namath.
Unitas was my idol growing up, Namath at college, and Montana now.

People dont give Brady enough credit for what he has done with very limited talent around him. Put Brady on the 80s 49ers and youd have the same results that Joe got... Put Joe on the modern Patriots and youd probably get about the same results. Both guys are the best ever at their positions. QBing is a skill of its own.
