Trailer tire pressure
Hey guys, something I've always wondered. What pressure to run my trailer tires?
Its a 18" flat trailer, 2 axles, weighs about 1500 pounds. With the 911 on it, weighs about 4000. Side wall says to go to 50psi when cold, 1700 lbs per tire. Thats a rating of about 6600 capacity. Should I run the 50psi at all times, or drop it down a little since I'm not at full weight. Thanks,

My RV service place says to run trailer tires at full rated pessure all the time. They don't wear out like car tires do and the pressure helps reduce flex in the side walls which is one of the biggest causes of failure. On my truck though I reduce the pressure by 10# when not towing the 5th wheel to make it ride a bit smoother as was recommended by them also. My trailer tires are 65# rated and so are the truck tires.

I'd run the 50 pounds or the max pressure. It will pull easier and you'll burn less fuel.
I took wheelbarrow pushing 101 when I was a teen. With the tire at full pressure you had energy left over to go out that night and party. If the tire was low... you would still go out and party, but were more tired ![]() |

Yes. I set mine at full before each pull to the track.

+3 on that. Set them at full pressure. Less flex=less heat=less failures.

Set to max pressure cold? Or get the pressure dialed in when hot?

As a side note, I use Denman trailer tires and on their website it notes if the tires seem too warm, to bump the pressure up an additional 3 or 4 pounds. The also note that max speed is 65 MPH no matter what you are pulling. I have seem guys go by me at 85 or more when towing up to Willow Springs, whoa!
