Breaking News: Plane crash in NYC
Just in on the tube......looks like a small plane or helicopter crashed into a hi-rise on E 72 street.
Hopefully no one was in the apartments/offices when it happened......

Apparently there are many heli pads in the area.
Wait.... Now the FAA is saying fixed wing aircraft. Two comfirmed dead...people trapped...

OK, Eye witness just said she saw a small plane lose altitude, wing dip and disappear behind a building.... Looks like gaijindabe had it right.

Latest news: Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle was the registered owner and pilot of the plane at the time of the crash; one passenger aboard. Very sad.

General aviation has suffered greatly since 9/11 due to the general publics fear of another WTC type event. People fail to realize that a typical small airplane is no more dangerous to skyscrapers than a passenger car filled with explosives parked next to a skyscraper. Airspace restrictions and airport closures (Meigs Field in Chicago) have unfairly occurred all due to the fear of the non aviation public.
This will no doubt result in even more restrictions even though the result of the incident is not much worse than the many fatal car crashes that probably also occurred today. How this guy managed to hit where he did on a tall building on a clear day is just mind boggling to me. Will be interesting to see what caused this. It is sad that this pilot and passenger died today, but it WILL get blown way out of proportion!

Watched a bit of Nancy Grace on CNN-HLN when I got home from work last night. The first thing that came to mind was "stupid *****".
