to call this a castle, is on par with calling an electric Golf cart made by Porsche a GT sportscar... makes just about the same amount of sense.

Castle my ass! That's a big, ugly, pretentious, poser of a house. All of the builder's taste was in his mouth.

I lived here for a few years. Must have had 25 fireplaces. It even had a pipe organ! I guess you can call it a castle - it is a residence hall at my undergrad school. Many claim it was haunted. I stayed in it for a full week once during the winter all by myself - freaky place!

actually no , not a castle, there are no structural defences, no walls, fortifications, not design to withstand a siege...

this, would be a castle

't Gravensteen, Gent, Belgium
literally translated, the Count'sstone
the Count of Flanders, one of the richest providences in Midieval France had his base of operations there...

it's a castle allright, but it's a bit tutti fruti ...
lady of the castle must have been the one wearing the pants there

realistically , for castles.. gotta visit UK
i think they have the highest concentration of proper castles anywhere in the world

i like this one ... not at all tutti fruti

also like the japanese castles, more refined yet very tough looking
especially nice when there is snow , not so much visible defences, but i'm envisioning 20 really hardcore samurai hidden in the nooks and crannies of one of these castles...just waiting to jumpout and distribute death

Like Stijn says, or hints at: One of the main purposes of a castle is as a defensive fortification.

Although castle can refer to an individual building, this building was usually the keep. Castle properly refers to the entire grouping, including the outer walls, towers, armory, residences, etc.

Once the defended area is large enough to encompass secondary city structures, such as the blacksmith, cobbler, etc, then you have a fortress or citadel.

A home such as for sale would be a manse or palace.

You have to know these things when you're king....

Does an invisable line of Nuns count? There is a nice hedge that surrounds the prop - many a drunken night I scraped the ***** out of my face trying to get through it. We did once pour a bucket of garbage in the top of a townies truck who was parked right under the 3rd story window. Does that count for anything?
