Race garage/shop almost done
It's been a long haul getting the new garage/shop done...
We started in April getting estimates, ran into some hurdles with septic, moving a 10x20 garden shed, and location, etc.. but things got rolling. It's 24x38 and will have a seperate storage room and small office to be added later. June: select bidder July: Finally get septic location identified and plan approved August: Get septic moved and final permits approved Sept: ![]() ![]() Oct: ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see the front half has a 10' ceiling. I removed the ceiling joists in the rear and added collar ties in order to have a "cathedral style" ceiling to make room for the lift. This area will be insulated and finished by a laborer as I don't have the scaffolds. ![]() ![]() ..and plenty of room for the race rig to park alongside! ![]()

Sweet! I wish I had more depth; my original plan called for 25x40, but the county would only let me do 25x25

Thanks guys,
I'm pretty excited about it. There are still a million things to do, including building the storage room and office, and insulating the ceiling... ...as well as waiting for the electrical run, but at least it's close to usable now... Thom, it'll neevr be big enough... 24x38 seemed huge, but even now i catch myself thinking, "could have been bigger" haha... Christian, we're actually having folks over after the annual go-kart race... Keg o' Guiness to break it in, you're welcome to join.. Oct 29th around lunchtime...

I love the well spaced electrical outlets. You have 220 as well?

I think I went overboard with the outlets. There's one about ever 8 feet and 6 in the ceiling, but outlets are cheap.
I did add 220. I added a 220 run for where the lift is going, another for the electric heater (10000 Watter) and then I piped one along each wall for future expansion using 3/4" EMT conduit. I assume at some point I'll pick up a TIG or larger MIG welder so it'll be easy to pull the wire when the time comes. I used Luaun plywood instead of drywall to haev removable panels on the wall and ceiling. This will allow easy access to electric, air, etc.. if I need it. Just have to live with the slight bowing in the panels themselves.

Nice planning Chris... Nope, you can't have too many outlets.

Tim, It'll be full as soon as i start moving all my stuff in. I keep thinking "It could be bigger" but since it's on our property I didn't want to get too outrageous.
I'm going to use a Oulette 10k watt electric heater for main heat and then supplement with a forced propane heater as needed. This heater is a 240V jobbie which should be a bit more efficieint than standard 120V.
