Going Back to School

I'm taking a welding class at the local community college in the fall. I have to register as a part-time student because they don't offer any welding classes in their "community education" program.

I've been playing with the idea of going back and getting an MBA at some point. It'd really suck if I get rejected because I failed welding...

Cool stuff, how many nights a week? Arc, Mig & Tig?

I wish something like this was offered locally. I'm jealous of you & barettafan.

I've been trying to teach myself with a friend's arc welder, with some success. Strong, but looks like someone threw peanut butter at it.

Two nights a week. One night is classroom, the other lab.

Arc, Mig, and Tig are covered.

Are you allowed to bring in a "project"?

When Peter Egan was doing his degree in journalism, he took electives in machining, welding etc... race prepped a Bugeye Sprite. He wrote that he was the only journalism student who got credits for prepping a race car.

I don't know. At this point I've picked a course out of the catalog. I'm going over there after lunch to register and get more information.

I clicked thinking you had the good sense to enroll in a Political Science course. Kidding. Good luck on your welding exploits. My MBA program allowed me to skip the welding test because of my engine building experience.

Supe, I actually took quite a few polysci classes in college. Where do you think I discovered the wisdom of Thomas Sowell?

I have an MS in Management. It has done precisely nothing for me.

You won't fail welding if you show up and show interest. Pass the safety test and the technical part and you'll get an A. It may be a unaccredited class anyway. Check the class number.

I found the one conservative polysci professor in all of academia. Why do you think I took so many polysci classes? I couldn't squander such a rare and valuable resource...

I have undergraduate degrees in economics, business administration and HR. I was under the delusion that some of that would someday mean something when I went to law school. Almost 20 years later I can't think of a single time anyone cared anything about my undergraduate education. I did pick up a liking for Max Weber, Alexander Djias, Hegel, and dialectics in the poly sci courses I took as electives. Get your MBA at the best executive MBA program you can get someone else to pay for.
