Tell me about Santa Fe. In regards to the construction trade and possible retirement. I've only driven through NM and it was many years ago and I think I may have had a few too many beverages.

Just here in ND pondering what else is out there. At the point in life where I'm still young enough to move on. Nest will be empty in a couple of years and am looking ahead. ND has been good to me but I am not sure I want to retire here.

I like Santa Fe, although I've only been there once. IMHO northern New Mexico has A LOT going for it. Affordable, centrally located, close to Colorado (Durango is just a couple hours drive away), 4 seasons, large middle class, tons of recreational opportunities.

Negatives: wind, sand, dirt, large lower middle class, poorest state in the U.S. Hey Billbo... you have too many high-dig cars for someone in ND. What's up with that?

My neighbors ask the same thing. Hard to answer that one as I really have not figured it out myself.

Biggest prob is finding water in Santa Fe to go along with whatever land you have. O/W artsy fartsy if that's your thing. A large number of same sex couples. Not that scenic IMO, in comparison with the rest of the four corners area.

Peter is correct above. Its expensive and not that nice unless you have friends or family there.

If you are looking, the four corners is a nice place. Las Vegas was 10 years ago, Phoenix 3 years ago but the boom has hit and its time to look elsewhere. Personally I am looking at Prescott AZ to retire in and get away from it all. Find a place you like, buy enough land to build 20 houses on and wait. After 10 years, sell all but 5 acres and pay your land and house off in full. Develop the rest of the land and be happy.
