Corvette flambé at the dragstrip video - Yikes!

Not kid friendly due to the enthusiastic narration of the camera dude:

Yeah, that NOS is some great engineering.

widgeon13 10-20-2006 06:49 AM

Second guy w/ the extinguisher lets it rip from 20 feet away, I don't think they were ready for anything like that. If they had been there as it happened it would have saved the owner mucho bucks.

That won't be cheap.

techweenie 10-20-2006 06:57 AM

First, the guys with the video cameras were pathetic. The whole tone of the "narrative" was how neat it was that the car burst into flame.

Then there's the track workers. Must've been napping. Slow to respond, and as Widgeon says, the second guy was only effective at getting the extinguisher material on guy #1.

Lame performance all around.

Christien 10-20-2006 07:15 AM

Yeah, I thought the same thing - where the hell are the track workers? If that was my car I would've grabbed the extinguisher from the guy, doused the flames, then beat him to a pulp with the empty canister!

edit: then again, I wouldn't be found at a drag strip and if I were, I would hope someone would beat me to a pulp with a fire extinguisher, to help pass the time...

rammstein 10-20-2006 07:30 AM

I have never seen such a slow response. God forbid if a person was stuck in a flaming car that day!

The guy on the camera was a tool. Not only because of his joy at the destruction, but also because of the degree of amazement. "Holy F'in $hit...". Dude, its an engine fire. Ever been to a Demolition Derby? They have a fire like that every minute or so. And those drunk hillbillies have that fire out in under 5 seconds.

I think you've nailed it: there simply weren't enough drunk hillbillies there.

I was impressed with how fast the guy exited the vette. Consider he had to pull it to a stop release his belt and grab the door handle. Even then he seemed to have his priorities in order, run Forest run, just let it burn.

and into the face of the first guy.

I don't understand why the first person there with an extinguisher just sets it down behind the car.

Probably afraid all that flamable liquid in the radiator was going to explode.;)

ckissick 10-20-2006 12:13 PM

The guy with the camera was so happy to see some one else's misfortune. What an idiot.

Check out the rally car crash into the tree. That guy standing there was kinda lucky, I'd say.

goat 10-20-2006 01:31 PM

Good grief.
Yes between the reaction of the two behind the camera, and the pathetic track workers, I would be scared to even go and spectate at a place like that.

VaSteve 10-21-2006 08:43 AM

Amzing and scary how fast it happened. I wonder if I could get out my track car that quick in an emergency.

The cameraman was dumb, but only in the fact he posted his audio of that. Adreneline takes over and we say some dumb stuff, but he should have edited it out on the repost.

Well, it's a Z06 to start with... that's over $70K new, right? It's not hard to imagine $25,000 worth of serious engine work, is it?

Well, not anymore its not. Ya know, after the NOS fire and all...:D :D :D

asphaltgambler 10-22-2006 07:10 AM

I have never in my life seen an unblown engine with NOS just explode like that and burn.

I have seen nasty fires and carbs lifted off of the mounting studs when big NOS kits burp then back fire...........but absolutely nothing like that..

Weird
