Atlanta, GA...I love that city...

Talk about nice people. I just got back from a two-day stint at Turner Broadcasting. By and far Atlanta has some of the most polite, hospitable and nicest people I've encountered in a big city. As my head of sales told me, "it's a southern thing." Well, I wish some of that southern thing would come about 2,000 nautical miles west to L.A.

If you go there, check out "The Strip," or maybe it was "Strips" -- I can't remember; too many martinis. But holy mother, the ribeye (rare), was unbelievable!

The only down part was seeing all the drunk (now depressed) Steelers fans stumble in and out of the hotel.

Maybe I'll start checking house prices.

I agree. I will probably retire there eventually. Up in the Atlanta burb (where my house is....a nice brick and siding 2600 sq ft house with a 2 car garage, hardwoood floors and 2 firplaces.. on 1/3 acre is about $250K.

Coming from LA? hmmm let's see...lets start with a random number, how about 500k...500k will get you anything from a loft downtown to a superhouse 10-20 miles out. 5000+ sq. feet.

I've got 3500 square feet (including the basement, which has a garage door) all hardwood, granite counters, owned by an interior decorator previously, for under 250k. I have a 2 car garage on the main floor, and a single into the basement where I can get 3 deep. I have 2 MGs and a concrete countertop business in there.

Atlanta hasn't figured out the bubble yet. in a couple years, I'll be one of the close houses.

Lived in Atlanta for 3 years and I liked it more than many places I've lived. $250k will get you a nice house in the 'burbs.

Thank you for the kind words all. Born and raised here worked in downtown area for last 20 something years. I have been many other places and click my heels everytime to get back to southern trees and grace. I love Atlanta and have seen many changes, many for good...

Daughter lived in the burbs of Atlanta. I liked it except in the Summer. The humidity wrung me out big time. If I could spend summers elsewhere, the rest of the year would be great there.

Spent time in Atlanta this summer on vacation. Had a great time and met really nice people. Also visited Savannah which the Wife loved and nice people there too, not to mention one of the most beautiful cities I've seen.

Traffic sucks (but coming from Cali - more like average.) It gets hot and humid - hence the nickname "Hotlanta".

RE is very decent - quality of life is up there. When the California RE tumbles - bet Dallas and Atlanta will both benefit.

I went to the Clarmont last time I was in Atlanta. There were some really friendly folks in there. I think one was even trying to take me home with her. Thankfully the Edgar Winter looking guy at the door put me in a cab at 4am and sent me safely back to my hotel... alone.

I have to agree--Atlanta is really nice. Will be back down there for New Years' celebrations.

Stone Mountain for the Laser show is a must do.

The Sunadial Restaurant at the top of the Westin Peachtree tower is another must do.

Mary Mac's Tea Room is a must for breakfast as well.

The Atlanta Botanicle Gardens are really noce as well and you can kill 4 hours there easy in the spring or fall and really have a nice day.

I found Downtown Atlanta to be one of th emost bizzare downtowns ever, on Saturday and Sunday the place is a ghostown and barely anything is open.

I stayed at the Westin Peachtree tower (I highly recomend this as well, tip the person checking you in and ask for a good view up high) and was suprised how far I had to walk to find a deli and other "normal" downtown stores. They are just not there. This was about 4 years ago and residences were just popping up downtown, maybe that has changed.

Just to add, skip Atlanta Undergound and do not go there at night. It is very over rated and not worth the time. Think of a mall in a psuedo underground setting with lots of punk kids and "gangstas" walking around.

I was not comfortable there and started to wlkk back to the hotel and realized I needed to be in a cab. Again, this was 4 years ago.

Buckhead was also interesting, very yuppy and supossidly the place to go if you want to rub elbows with the Hotlanta Rap scene.

We actually talked about a possible move up there 4 years ago. We were very impressed with how polite everyone was (southern Charm) and how affordable housing is. I just do not like winter too much and prefer Florida's hot climate.

We went to the Underground, which was overrated. I liked the idea, but it was small, hot down there, and just a lot of trinkets and stuff out of kiosk/cart-type things to buy. Not all that impressing.

Some of the folks were scary, but nothing compared to L.A.

Buckhead was completely different. We checked out some of the hot rap scenes where a radio station was having a party. We were eating at a restaurant across the street which served the best damn fried chicken I've ever had. Hush puppies, too, and mustard greens with fried catfish. Shoot! I'm droolin' just thinking about it. (I'll have to get the name of the restaurant for you guys).

Spent a few days there...loved the city and the different architecture of the buildings and yes, the people.

Again on staying away from the Underground.

Daddy D'z for BBQ...mmm.

Everyother street I think is named Peach something or other....Had a great time there.
