Abortion Poll!
I'm being serious, I'd like to see what people think on this very specific issue.
Read the choices carefully. "Unrestricted right to abortion" means full choice. In other words, there does not need to be any extenuating circumstances, like the pregnancy being the result of a rape, or health of the mother, etc. I am also assuming a normal full term pregnancy is 9 months, i.e., 270 days. So the question is presuming an abortion the day before birth. |

I think your poll is wacked. I don't think even the most hardcore pro-choice femi-nazi would be in favor of an abortion 1-day before delivery.

yeah, but somebody voted yes. Maybe they got confused
![]() I have what I think is a pretty reasonable take on this. 1st trimester, yes. 3rd trimester, no. 2nd....not sure. There are so many factors involved (not the least of which is that I'm not a woman and it isn't *my* body), I have a tough time being totally dogmatic. |

Nos...On that we agree. Whereas I might object to abortion on moral grounds, there is a fine line between dictating behavior and free choice. I am one of those folks that is not convinced that an individual, for example, occurs immediately upon conception. I think that the mother's health, both physical and mental must be taken into account. I would not object to exceptions for rape and incest. But, I might object for abortion just as a convenience. I would not want to see a return to "back alley abortion clinics"
This is a subject that people get really emotional about, but still cannot come up with good reasons why they get so emotional. By good reasons, I mean reasons not grounded in one or another theological opinion.

I am Anti Abortion / Pro Choice.
It's my business how I moraly feel about abortion and the day our government makes our moral choices for us is a bad day. I want to freedom to worship as I choose and have religious beliefs of my choice. If the government decides a moral issue for me, where will it stop? I am against abortion for moral reasons, but, who the hell am I to tell someone what to do? That is between them and God and if it turns out there is no God, I guess the joke is on me.

Jim, I'm pretty much with you, but that argument doesn't go very far with the folks who really, really object to abortion on moral grounds. They think it should be the state's duty to protect the innocent/unborn, sort of like we have laws that still make it illegal to kill someone who really needs killing.

Forced votes are not valid votes.

I'm not trying to force a vote, I am trying to remain as neutral as possible, so I deleted the question. Some of the responses leave me very unclear as to how the poster would vote, and based on their responses I'm curious, but I'll leave it.

There are just as many living children perishing all over the world due to other reasons and no one seems to care. I disagree with abortion but that is that persons moral choice, they will answer for it.

My wife had an abortion. Our baby basically had half of a heart. Her name was going to be Lucy. I'm not going to get in to any debates over our decision. Very tough situation.

My wife works with a woman who has just had her THIRD abortion, not due to medical reasons, but just as a form of birth control as far as I know.
Its tough for me to be pro-choice in light of this kind of crap, but I can't see removing liberties from everyone because of irresponsible A-Pipes. Abortion is my most hated issue, becuase it would be 100% easy to be pro-choice if the nation wasn't so damn full of deadbeats, crackheads, morons, etc. EDIT: to stay on topic, after 269 days, assuming it is even possible to have an abortion, I would need more data to give a yes or no. Are there medical complications threatening the mother/baby? Has the mother just decided at the last minute that a baby would cramp her style? Did the mother just kind of lose track of time until contractions started? This is why I cannot answer, and why I can't figure out a way to make laws governing this. Worst issue ever. ![]() There was a time when I felt pretty liberal about this topic. After I held my son in my arms 10 minutes after his birth, my perspective changed a bit.

But yes, I'm talking about fully elective. No medical or any other problems. The rule would apply as equally to a rape victim as to a woman who just changes her mind out of convenience or because she decides the baby will cramp her style. Completely unrestricted, no questions asked. (and yes, it is of course medically possible to abort on the last day). |
