First time E-Bay and it's fraud

The one and only time I try to buy something on E-Bay and it turns out to be a fraudulent transaction.

I see a Thermador range that retails for $8K or $9K. Buried in the text is an offer to sell it for $2,200. I send an e-mail to confirm the sale price and shipping costs. I get a positive response. I send another e-mail asking the "seller" to call me. He does, with a heavy Eastern European (Russian mafia) accent. "Is not problem," he tells me, "I sell to you for $2,200." I call a friend that buys and sells cars and boats on E-Bay to help me with the purchase. He says with the seller's high rating there shouldn't be any problem except that it was too late for the seller to stop the auction with only 12 hours to go. He bids for me but the auction is suspended, something about the seller's account being hijacked. The next day I search for ranges again and see the same set-up but with a Wolf range.

So, based upon my experience I logically assume that all E-Bay transactions are fraudulent.

if its too good to be true, it probably is

That sucks. But having your e-bay account hijacked is not unheard of. Mine was hijacked about 6 months ago, and luckily ebay caught it before I did (within 3 hours). But I do have to admit that fraud with ebay is definatley up. I have been recieving second chance offers that appear to be from ebay at an alarming rate lately, and they are most definatley fraudulant.

I have gotten two second chance offers in the past couple of days. I do two things. One I sent to to ebay and second I tell them to bring whatever it is to Columbus, Ga. and I will pay cash if it checks out. No takers just yet. I have several friends that are cops and not to mention a couple of DA's. I hope they show up. Good luck.

I avoid E-Bay at all costs. I have had 1 good transaction, I sold Beths Miata. It was alot of work and I would never do it again. I have lots of friends who live on Evil-bay and they have good luck, most of the time. I just don't trust it.

I have only bought so far. I have purchased over 80 items. One BMW and my Porsche and have never had a problem. Lucky I guess. Own the stock too. I am getting ready to sell some stuff so I get to see how the other half works. Good Luck.

You have to go back and look at thte sellers history. If they go from selling baseball cards to Porsche engines overnight, well that seems fishy.
