Where are all the Schumi lovers now ??
I don't see anyone here lamenting MS's engine trouble that prevented him from taking part in the 3rd qualifying session. Maybe he cooked his engine again in the 2nd round trying to set the fastest lap with 1 sec margin, same way he cooked it in Japan when he realised FA was catching up on him and he turned the revs up too much. Trying to do too much in the last 2 races of his career. I don't really feel sorry for him or his big ego.
It should be an interesting race tomorrow. I actually hope Kimi wins, but judging from experience, his car will let him down 2/3rds into the race. Massa will probably win in front of his home crowd. Does anyone know if MS will start from P10 or will he take an engine change and start from P20?

As the saying goes $hit happens. I have been a fan of MS since day 1 and F1 will be losing a great driver. I betcha he puts in a great drive tomorrow if the car holds up.

Being Qualy finished 5 minutes ago it would seem we are all still watching it.
BTW - It appears to be a tranny problem not a toasted engine. Ferrari is just getting ready for Kimi's arrival. ![]()

I just think it's too bad that he had transmission problems, as it made it a little less stressful for FA tomorrow.
Also, hats off to Massa for getting the pole in his home-town race. I also think it's cool that MS broke the all-time lap time record in session 1. Must be due to the fact that Ferrari said that they were going to be cranking up the revs for this race to over 20k. Looking forward to the race tomorrow. |

We were all wrong. He had fuel pressure problems. Hopefully it did not hurt his engine.
Thsi should make for a VERY exciting race Sunday.

the guy is a tremendous talent. And the face of F1. Who will replace him? If your a driver in F1 next year, who will you say you beat?

if you watched the pre-qualifying coverage, Symonds indicated they are a little worried about turn 1. Alonso will probably try to launch and get clear of everyone. I wouldn't be surprised if Massa closes the door should that happen (or Fisi for that matter). Ferrari knows that MS can start 10th and get to the front as long as FA doesn't get clear and run away.
The first lap will be interesting... |

I told you MS would put in a great drive...........just amazing. MS has set the bar very very high. In this world of arrogant, snooty, law breaking etc. high dollar athletes his professional attitude is refreshing. Good luck to him and his family.................a sad day for F1.

What was the comment during the race?...... That pass was worth 100 NASCAR passes? I was heartbroken when Fisi slashed his tire during lap 4. What amazed me after that was his race to 4th place passing even Kimi on his way. Hate him all you want, no one will drive like that for a long time in F1. I will watch next year just to watch FA loose and to see if Kimi or Massa even have 1/10th the driving ability of MS. Wow! just Wow!!! That was an amazing drive. Radio: Rubin,... Micheal is behine you and you are to race him. 10 seconds later Micheal is past him like he was not there. Fisi (Renaults new #1 man) drives off the track when he sees Micheal is in his mirror AGAIN after he puts a wing into his rear tire and send him to the back. You cannot script stuff like this.

Anyone who actually can string together multiple negative comments with regards to MS is probably someone who is also not very in touch with
reality. To say that he is a tremendous talent that will go down in the history books with some of the all time greats is an understatement. Reality check----Is there ANYONE currently in F1 with even 10% of MS's achievements? I'm all ears. CHEERS--to Schumi for an awesome career!!! |

Interesting comment in the extended post interview piece. MS drove an obviously wounded car like it was his last race (which it was). But he always drove like that. Compare that to the Toyotas which seem to pull into the garage when the windscreen gets dirty.
It's a sad night tonight. Not only is it the end of the season, but no more Michael. At least I've got dvds... Last edited by nostatic; 10-22-2006 at 09:07 PM.. |

I will miss watching him and wondering how any human being can be that good at driving a race car.

A pretty hollow championship victory for Alonso - and his post race interview reflected that.
If only there had been no engine failure last time and no puncture this time - then MS would have had the fitting end to his career - not to say that his drive yesterday wasn't awesome as usual. There is a successor - Massa as the UK commentator said - an exquisite drive.

Alonso is the youngest first time WDC (both times!) and the youngest to win back-to-back. Next year he's still one of the youngest drivers yet he will have the most wins of anyone on the grid (15). All this in just five seasons - one of which was with Minardi !!
Not to take anything away from MS, his talent, or unbelievable drive yesterday in an obviously superior car - but FA is no slouch. It will be very interesting to see if he can do for McLaren what MS did for Ferrari. Both Stewart and Lauda think he can. How long do you think Ferrari can hold together without MS, Brawn, and Stepney (all from Benentton - which also fathered Renault) ?
