Things need to get much worse before they will get better
I was thinking about the isolation of the US in 1940/41. The majority of people did not want to help Europe with a euopean problem. Some of the US actually supported going in on the side of Germany. There were actualy Nazi demonstrations in Madison Square Gardens. It took attacks by Japan on the US and a declaration of war by Germany and Italy to actually get us in the game.
Maybe we do need to pull back. Pull back our troops from Iraq & the rest of the middle east and South Korea, Japan and where ever they are stationed in the world. Pull out of the UN and stop meddling in the affairs of the rest of the world and cut off all aid to other countries. Concentrate on our own issues: affordable sustainable energy and the problems with migrant undocumented workers. I wonder how long before Iran has Nuclear weapons, North Korea actually attacks someone, China attacks Taiwan, something happens in Japan and the entire middle attacks Isreal? For those outside the US, is this what you really want? Do you think the world will truely settle down if we just stop messing around with it? |
Oh, and the other half of this is all santions are removed. We will not restrict our businesses from engaging in deals with any country.

After 911 the Shadow Minister of Defense for the UK said, before Parliment "America has guarnteed Global security since 1945, if America fails to act (respond to 911) Global security will fail."
If the US becomes "isolationist" the world will fall into a multiude of armed camps. The result will be a much more chaotic world. The consequence is economic instability and Global Depression the likes of which we have not seen before. |
That was supposed to be GWB's plan in 2000. He and Condi spent the 2000 election bad-mouthing Clinton's foreign involvements, proclaiming they would not be about "nation-building". So much for that. Of course, looking at Iraq, one wonders what we've built, if anything.

If the U.S. had stayed out of Iraq the first time, when Saddam invaded his neighor, maybe the whole world would like us. That's really what it's all about. We really need the entire world to like us.
Oh wait...We tried that when we didn't respond to attacks on U.S. Embassies, the USS Cole, the World Trade Center in 1993, our marines in Beruit when they were part of UN peace-keeping forces. The enemy doesn't care if the U.S. is in Iraq or Afghanistan or anywhere else. Their problem is that you, citizen of western civilization, are breathing and that must stop immediately! |
