Anyone know Alameda California?

A guy out there sent us a copy of an impossible to find equipment manual from the 80's. He says he doesn't want anything for it, but I'd like to get him a gift certificate for some eats or something. I have no idea where Alameda is or what's to do there so any help is greatly appreciated.

Just looking to send him $50 or so, so no 5 star stuff. I'd just like to buy him a few beers and a burrito or something

Alameda is an island on the SF Bay, right across a narrow straight from Oakland. The naval base that Nostril Cheese (?) so helpfully refers to is a popular spot for PCA autocrosses.

I can't name one restaurant in Alameda, but Scott's Sea Food in Oakland, very close by in Jack London Square, would be a nice gift.

We kept our boat at Fortman's Marina in Alameda.

Chevy's Fresh Mex is actually located in Alameda, and they've gift certificates I think.

As someone pointed out, Jack London Square has some nice places, but $50.00 won't go very far. Kincaid's was our favorite, with Quinn's Lighthouse in Embarcadero Cove, south of Jack London Square a close second and very reasonable, particularly the upstairs bar.

For pure fun, you can't beat Heinold's First and Last Chance Bar, a tiny hole in the wall that Jack London used to hang out in. It opened in 1883 and in the 1906 earthquake the piles settled into the mud, leaving the place listing like a marooned ship. They never fixed it, and the floor and tables still slope so precipitously, that you have to hang onto your pint lest it slide right off the table.

One night my wife and I had a great time with the bartender singing Frank Sinatra songs.

Mabye something for the House of Prime Rib or Cliff House or Top of the Mark(Hopkins hotel) where he can take someone. All nice places. It won't pay for dinner but it'll help.
