What a ripoff!

I'm watching VH1 which has the "Gods of ROck" on it and it's a Whitesnake Video. Are they the wosrt Led Zepplin rip off or what?

How in the hell did they actually make money?

red-beard 10-26-2006 02:07 PM

Or crap, it looks like they have 4 more in a row. Geez, I guess I'll watch CNNi or just shoot myself.

Nostril Cheese 10-26-2006 03:02 PM

If you mean Led "Zeppelin" then I agree with you.

it irks me when people spell it Zepplin

Whitesnake a Led Zeppelin ripoff? I dont think so.

they are not in the same music category. Whitesnake is heavy metal, Zepellin is more country classic rock.

Whitesnake´s "Wine, women and song" is one of my favorites. Particularly the piano /song intro. Likewise "Would I lie to you".

"Would I lie to you, just to get into your pants ?"

"I think so."

country? blues sure but I'm thinking no on country.

They were looked at by Atlantic records as "the new zep" when the lights were starting to go out. They were all over us to get them played everywhere. A LOT of noses got packed that year.

nota 10-26-2006 03:42 PM

led zep defined what metal should be
saddly none of the later metal bands got it

IROC 10-26-2006 03:44 PM

Didn't Coverdale sing for Deep Purple at some point?

targa911S 10-26-2006 03:52 PM

yes he did.

scottmandue 10-26-2006 04:01 PM

This is stretching the old brain cells but as I remember what they played on the radio from them was very zep-ish.

sammyg2 10-26-2006 04:05 PM

Foghat was supposed to be the new zep, but it just didn't pan out.

nostatic 10-26-2006 04:29 PM

Whitesnake = hair metal

they're no Ratt... :p

Your in a strange country. Why not go out and explore a little.

Lets see, Whitesnake or walk around and take in the city? Hmmmm....

Problem is Zep explored so many different styles and genres and made them uniquely thier own that it's easy even today to say that some "new" sound is ripping them off.

Everyone sounds like them because they did everything. Blues, eastern influenced, celtic, folk, country etc...

About the only thing that I can think that they didn't do is punk, although Communication Breakdown might fit into that category.

I don't have to much of an issue with Whitesnake. Dig into the older stuff. The lineup has included such notables as,

Ian Paice and Jon Lord-Deep Purple
John Sykes-Thin Lizzy
Aynsley Dubar-Journey
Vivian Campbell-Dio and now Def Leppard
Rudy Sarzo-Quiet Riot and someone else, maybe Ozzy
Adrian Vandenberg
Steve Vai
Tommy Aldridge

I think the one song that tagged them as Zep clones was Cryin in the Rain, very Plantish vocals plus David kinda looked like Plant at the time.

I didn't pay attention to which song it was, but the guitarist pulled out a bow and started using it the Jimmy Page used to in Dazed and confused. The lead vocalist seemed to be trying to mimic Plant.

As far as walking around in Bucharest, I'm on the edge of the city, not in the "walking" area. I'm heading up to the Compressor station in an hour and I spent most of last night red-lining P&IDs.

Actually, today we drove up to the compressor station. It's about 5 hours from Bucharest in Transylvania.

Yep, I spent the day with the Vampires. I even ate at a place called "Dracula Dane" which I think is "Hotel Dracula"

Romania is actually a very nice country. Even in the small old villages, the people try to keep up thier houses. Passed several castles and one church that was built in 1265. They have some awesome looking ski slopes and the architecture looks a lot like Switzerland. The mountains are very rugged and look like short Alps. I'm bringing the snowboard in March!

Oh, and here the leaves change colors! Not quite as extreme as the Northeast US, but still quite beautiful.

What the country needs is a major injection of road infrastructure, say Autobahn or Interstate type roads to help spread the wealth around the whole country. The 360KM trip took over 5 hours mostly because the speedlimits change to 50km/hr in the villages and the mountain switchbacks just can't be taken too quickly. Oh, and good luck doing the speedlimit in most of the cities on the way up. Lots of traffic and no bypass.
