Browser activity logging question

The question is a bit more technical than it may seem.

I STILL cannot successfully connect to Google or any of it's related sites. Is there a tool or technique to log all activity such as calls, connections, hops etc that I can log to see where the block is occuring?

Here's what I get :

"The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.google.com"

Happens on both IE and Firefox. No Google Toolbar and Hosts file does not block Google.

I would start with going to start->run->cmd->tracert <host> and see what shows up there. That pings all the hops between you and that host.

From home or workplace? Who controls the firewall? Who is your ISP? Cable or DSL or Dial up?

also, any unusual ports listening, or changes in browser config (proxy settings, etc). Also, any changes in software? Another rule out step would be to create a new user on the machine and see if it works under that account...

This at home, firewall is with a DLink wireless access point...no changes from initial setup a few years ago.

No apparent changes in software, including browser config. I'll set up a new user and check.

ISP is Cablevision.

I'll try Tracet and new user. Not sure haw to track port listening.

Thanks guys...keep ideas coming.

I'm rarely stumped but this one has me cold.

netstat -an

will show you open/listening/connected ports

Unfortunately, I don't know how to see what is using that port in windows (linux/bsd/etc can use lsof)
