Maybe it's time he made good on his promise to move out of the country....

That's okay, within a generation his "kind" will be irrelevant:

I have a lot of respect for Alec. He's a damn good actor, in serious drama or in comedy, IMHO. I was impressed with his interview in Actor's Studio.

I agree with you Steve, he is a great actor.

Unfortunately, like many celebrities, he thinks that automatically makes him an expert on politics.

And I'm not saying that actors are any less qualified than any of us to discuss politics. It's just that they live in an extremely isolated environment, under circumstances that are very different than the average American. They are some of the louder voices in political discussion, but they are not at all representative of most people.

It seems to me that someone who lives in an "extremely isolated environment, under circumstances that are very different than the average American" is by definition less qualified to comment in a political discussion than the "average" person, but I am an unreasonable conservative asshat

Nearly all politicians live in that same environment though.

Tobra 11-01-2006 06:43 AM

I don;t think you have to qualify that with "nearly"

No disagreement here. That is a big part of the problem with politicians, IMO.

...

On the other end of the spectrum is my state representative to the state house: Dan Brady. I've run into him dozens of times at various events around town. He makes an effort to strike up conversations with average people and get their opinions. He often does not introduce himself or mention his title. He seems genuinely interested in his constituents' real opinions and doesn't want people to be politely vague around him.

...

I wonder...would we have a Congress more in tune with their constituents if they were all telecommuters?
