Jefferson?

Is William Jefferson still in Congress?

Why do some people resign quickly (DeLay, Foley), and some claim that their law-breaking conduct shouldn't cost them their job (Kennedy x 2, Jefferson)?

It's usually when an indictment is handed down, or, in Foley's case, the fear the Page parents showing up on your doorstep and pummel you. Well that and the other GOP'ers treating you like a leper.

Jefferson is still there. Whassup with the FBI?

I think he'll be hunting a new freezer after next week. Don't think the Nat'l Guard will be escorting him much longer.

They only leave if it looks like they won't be able to keep their seat in an election. In the case of the Kennedys, since their (ahem) indiscretions, they've fallen on their swords, and then gotten re-elected. Once you've been re-elected, it doesn't matter what happened since their constituents have voted them back into office in spite of their sordid past.

It's one of the joys of living in New England. If a Kennedy is running, they generally get elected. It makes sorting through the local candidates on the ballets a lot easier if you know who's going to win before you even cast your vote.
