Things my two year old son may never know about

My wife is a college professor. All her students were born in the 1980s!(!!!) They've never known a president before Clinton, never lived without the Internet, and Cell phones and Ipods (well, WalkMans, anyway) have always been there. The Cold War is an abstract thing to them.

I've got a 2 year old son. Without getting too esoteric, there are a few things that were everyday parts of life until very recently - but he'll never know them.

"Fast Forward/Rewind"
Pulse dialing
Magnetic tape
Paper maps
Rabbit ear antennas
CB radio
Esperanto
Command prompts
Soviet Union
Spare tires (?)

What am I missing?

how about Rotary dialing,
Analog Modems,
8track Tapes
Reel to Reel tapes
Betamax
Record players
Lap Belts without shoulder restraint
Pumping the Gas to prime the Carb
Pulling the Choke
Tobaco Commercials during Monday night football

And Finally
Having to getup off the couch to change the channel to U and tuning the UHF band.

I was born in 1986, I'm going to put an X next to things I've used.

My daughter will definitely be doing this when she's old enough! Can't wait to get her driving my car!

FWIW, we still use modems - they're in fax machines.

Ferget betamax. A 2-year old will never know VHS either. We haven't played a VHS tape at our house since our 2 1/2 year old was born.

How about light bulbs. I'm thinking diode-based light will knock them off within a decade.

...maybe two decades.

Too funny, a week or two ago my 17 y/o son saw an old oil can punch and asked what it was. I explained and he said "Like a can of chili?". I dug around and found a very old can of Esso 30 weight to show him!

We use manual can openers, a percolator when we camp and almost always stove top pop corn.

Funny. You didn't explain what a "church key" was as a matter of demonstration?

re oil cans, jet engine oil is still sold in cans like that.
