Louisviulle / West Va

Can you believe this game?

Flatbutt1 11-02-2006 06:34 PM

I fear that my beloved Rutgers is in for a very tough time.

Brew 66 11-02-2006 06:44 PM

Bobby Patrino was a college friend and our QB. It sure is cool to see him and little brother Paul do so well!

BRPORSCHE 11-02-2006 06:55 PM

ha who would of ever thought rutgers would be ranked 12 in the BCS? For years i always told my dad (rutgers alumni) that LSU would decimate Rutgers. I still think they would.

Flatbutt, West Virgina is the better team in this matchup. I think that Rutgers has a better shot at beating louisville then it does West va.

Flatbutt1 11-02-2006 06:57 PM

well right now Louisville is having their way with WVa. At any rate we here are enjoying RU's run however long it lasts.

BRPORSCHE 11-02-2006 06:59 PM

Yeah i am watchign this game pretty crazy.

UconnTim97 11-02-2006 07:05 PM

As a big East fan, this game has been awesome. The winner needs a blow out win to get into a championship bowl though.

Either Ohio State or Michigan will have one loss facing each other, it will be a tough argument not putting the winner of this game (most likely Louisville) into the championship bowl.

PS Louisville does finish their season against UConn....a spoiler awaits... :)

BRPORSCHE 11-02-2006 07:09 PM

so no one agrees with me that even a 1 loss team from the SEC even has a shot at the champinship game? I think we are forgetting strength of schedule people. How many top 25 teams do the Big East play a season? Now compare that to LSU, Auburn, Florida, Tennesse, and I am sure there is atleast one more.

UconnTim97 11-02-2006 07:17 PM

Yes I agree, but it is very hard to overlook an undefeated team that just beat #3 WVU. Makes for quite the debate come bowl time.

BRPORSCHE 11-02-2006 07:21 PM

yes and since USC lost it gets ever more interesting. November is rocking already!

UconnTim97 11-02-2006 07:24 PM

going to be an exciting few weeks. Who can hold on?

Porsche virgin 11-03-2006 04:11 AM

If the Cardnials win out, they will have beaten WVa, Miami, KState, Rutgers, SFla, and Pitt. That is not a cakewalk, nor is it as tough has an SEC schedule. But undefeated is undefeated.

BTW, if they are 12-0, they will have done so without their Heisman candidate running back, who has been out since the first game. That is impressive and shows their depth.

That said, LET'S GO RUTGERS!!!!

pookie 11-03-2006 06:52 AM

Number 1 BCS sucks. The way it is set up schedules are factored but not well enough. I agree with BRPorsche that the SEC is the toughest conference out there, constantly have teams ranked in the top ten. And constantly have to play against other teams in the top ten. Number 2 a undefeated team will always be ranked higher than any team with a loss, that's just the way it goes. No changing that, I find it really unfair when there are a couple of undefeated teams and they all don't get a shot. Those kids work so hard go undefeated and end up playing for nothing. Talk about a smack in the face.

In my mind Louisville has played 2 tough teams WV who I think has been overrated all year and Rutgers, everyone else is kind of week. Sorry, Miami sucks this year, Kstate and USF, weak.

Until they come up with a playoff set up. It will continue to be biased and unfair in my opinion.

pookie 11-03-2006 06:57 AM

I should have also added that I know they won't come up with a playoff system because there is too much money to be lost. Come'on a #9 or 10 ranked school that goes to a bowl stands to make what $14 or 15 million. Yeah let's see those schools give that up. That's the problem a school not playing for the title doesn't want to give up the cash.

Flatbutt1 11-03-2006 07:00 AM

Agree that the SEC is premier and that the Big East schedule was backloaded to provide some drama. But it does assure that the best Big East team gets invited to the party.

For us here in jersey we're hoping the RU's run will convince more of our homegrown players to stick around.

Amen. (I'm an RU grad.) There has been way too much talent leaving the state for Penn State, the Florida schools, etc.

If we are going to stick with the Bowl System, I say get rid of the BCS altogether.

Besides, the rivalry games are far more entertaining than the bowls are anyway.

Ohio State - Michigan
Texas - Oklahoma
USC - Notre Dame
Florida - Florida State
Pitt - WVa
Army - Navy
Washington - Washington State
Oregon - Oregon State
Etc.

These are great games filled with pride and emotion, not some money grab like the Car Quest Bowl or something.

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.

I'm a Pitt grad and just went to the Rutgers game. Although they beat Pitt (No big task since Pitt Football has a way to go), I can't see them hanging with either team that played last night. I guess will find out. Heck, everyone at Pitt thought they were going to a major bowl until they actually played RU and got beat. Its not the Rutgers, WVU's and Louisville that are the problem. It's the other weak schools that pull them down.

BRPORSCHE 11-03-2006 04:23 PM

Yeah the Big East right now is extremely back loaded. It is all fun for the media, but it creates a false hype, and I think even worse fall sense for the players.

Quote from ESPN:
4: In its eight games this year, Florida has faced four teams in the top 25 nationally in total defense, the most of any top-10 team.

4: The top five teams in the AP poll (Ohio State, Michigan, West Virginia, Texas and Louisville) have faced a combined total of four top-25 defenses heading into this week's games -- or the same amount the Gators have faced individually.

101-7: Before we leave the one-loss BCS championship hopefuls, a thought about Tennessee's challenge as it tries to remain in that category. The Vols host an LSU team Saturday that has outscored its opponents 101-7 in the first quarter this year.

1st: The Bayou Bengals are first in the SEC in total offense, total defense, scoring offense and scoring defense. Bottom line: Despite its two losses, LSU is really, really good, yet the Tigers aren't even among the SEC teams with a shot at playing in the BCS championship game. It does lend some credence to the argument that a team that can make it through the SEC with one loss deserves a chance to play for all the marbles

Oh man Porsche virgin you missed the biggest rivalry of all. LSU-Auburn. I have friends who grew up in Baton Rouge and now go to Auburn. Big deal in the families. College football down here definitely is bigger then the NFL.

Here is the article from ESPN

Sorry guys for the really long post, but I really hate the BCS

Porsche virgin 11-04-2006 03:01 AM

Your points are well taken, and for my dollar, the Gators deserve to be the one-loss team (at this point in time), if one goes.

I would have thought Alabama - Auburn was bigger. I'm sure there are more regional ones that I'm just not aware of.

IMHO, OSU - Michigan is the biggest rivarly.
