Republicans for Granholm

Republicans for Granholm
http://www.republicansforgranholm.com/index2.php

From the FAQ:

Who we are:
We are a big-tent, grass-roots organization supporting the re-election of Governor Jennifer Granholm. We invite Republicans, Independents, and “Reagan-Democrats” to walk with us. However, we remain committed to the Republican party we love – the party of freedom, responsibility, and fiscal restraint

It’s about the economy and jobs, right?
Yes. Gov. Granholm has a real, workable bi-partisan plan. Republicans supported her 21st Century Jobs Fund, her high school curricular reform, and her business tax cuts. We can also support her Merit Scholarship program to increase our State’s skilled labor force.

Others tell me Gov. Granholm is a tax and spend liberal.
Wow, are they wrong. Gov. Granholm is a fiscal hawk. State government is leaner, with fewer employees than it had 1975. She’s balanced $4Billion in budget deficits by making tough cuts. And, she’s done it all without raising income taxes. In fact, she’s cut taxes 59 times. That’s a record Republicans can support.

My comment: There comes a time when you just have to make the better choice.

Michigan has had the highest unemployment in the US during each of Granholm's first 4 years. Our economy ranks 49 out of 50 and there's nothing on the horizon other than pie-in-the-sky talk (i.e. ethanol plants are our future? Gimme a break).

We did lead the US in one statistic: we were the Numero Uno "MOVE OUT" state for United Van Lines!! Incredibly, it looks like she's going to get another 4 years to continue to work the magic ...... oh well, what are ya gonna do in a union-dominated state? You laugh at it and succeed in spite of the government like I do.

Ohh come on now, she's going to tax "wealthy corporations" in her next term. I can't imagine any negative repercussions from such forward thinking tactics.

But yes, she's going to win and we have four more years of her stellar success to look forward to....viva la Granholm

Well, that's better than voting for Dick.

Devos has no plan for recovery, what plan he does have will cause such a shortfall in the state budget that almost no one is endorsing it (restructure of school tax income/property tax and tax breaks), no one ever expects it to be passed should he hold the office.

Unlike the Federal government which chalks up the national debt and just prints more money, the state budget must balance. Bush economics will not work in Michigan, it's already killing us.

Don't make a knee jerk emotional response on election day, we know things are bad, makes it even more important to use your head and think ahead.

Kach, it's all but over man, she's going to win. Probably by 8-12%. I suggest spending your energy on your 2010 explanations of why we are STILL last in the country economically.

I don't believe she can do much about the pitiful state of the auto industry that has such an effect on MI.

Not true, auto jobs are leaving Michigan for other states, not other countries.

We have crazy high business taxes

We have crazy high wages

We are the only state (I think) with its own EPA, as a redundant agency to the federal one...

We are the only state with a property tax on business equipment

Etc.....

Michigan is NOT a desirable place to run a business. But Granholm is promising to really tax our "wealthy corporations" so I'm sure we'll be all set soon

It's like watching the stupid train pull into town and the idiot union guys happily climb aboard.

Sorry, should have minded my own business. I actually know very little about MI state government. I do know that in PA it's the legislature that is responsible for raising or lowering taxes, creating a state agency, etc.

Everything is a joint act between legislature and the Governor, but we have a very Republican legislature and they have done nothing but butt heads with Granholm and will continue to do so.

You can't get taxes lowered, agencies removed, etc... without joint cooperation.

Has your legislature been "very Republican" for a long time or only just recently? How long has the "MI EPA" been in existance? I know we have a DEP (Dept of Environmental Protection) that has been around for many many years. I always thought most states had a similar agency.

It's been Republican for a while. You need to remember that until the last ten years or so Michigan Gov. had a really deep well to draw from so they tended to spend more. Now that times are tight we have so much residual baggage that we can't support it.

Regarding the environmental agency I actually think it's the DEQ, not the EPA and it's also been around a long time....like I said, times were good so they spent like crazy.
