WWll nose art

I got interested in this when my daughter and her boyfriend turned up with leather jackets with WWll noseart painted on the back. One day I'm going to get myself one with the Murder Incorporated motif on the back. That was the one that caused a bit of a propaganda fuss when the crew were captured in WWll.

Or perhaps one of these two would suit me instead of Murder Inc?

Is nose art still allowed? If so, got any links to pics of modern war birds with good art?

I've always thought the pinups on WW2 planes were really cool. Probably the most famous pinup artist was Alberto Vargas. The more you learn about him the more interesting he becomes.
My wife and I recently finished having 3 bathrooms remodeled. Knowing my interest in pinups she bought this one for my bathroom.

No way!! That is extremely cool. I am a big fan of pin up artists. Especially Olivia De Berardinis. Great stuff.

Nose art is no longer allowed in the US Air Force. The only aircraft with nose art is the A-10 Warthog which often has the shark mouth on the nose.

Heck, the Air Force doesn't even let their pilots paint their helmets, much less their aircraft.

Politically COrrect, even in the military.

On one ship I served on, we ran a flag up at "cocktail hour". It was a martini glass complete with olive on a bright green background.

My Uncle Gordon was a B-17 pilot. He had a legitmate right to wear a jacket like that. But after the war, he never did. I dunno, is it an honor to these guys that this is now a fashion item? To each his or her own, I guess.

Im reading Smokey Yunichs book right now (a great book btw) and his recount of his years as a B-17 bomber pilot. The more I read about the old days of the "greatest generation", the more I see that they were a bunch of hell-raisin' take-no-****, womanizing, animals of all kinds and creeds. And here I thought all they did was swing dance and drive cool cars.

Not exactly nose art, but along the same line...

the Navy does leave more room for creativity, albeit less then before...
it's all low-vis now , less fancy colors , except some of the cag birds perhaps, and then only when they aren't on combat patrol...
