Anyone use GoogleAnalytics?
Do any of the resident geeks here use GoogleAnalytics to track website activity? I'm using ExtremeTracking to track hits to the root index.html page of a website, and I decided to see what Google is offering. I put the GA code on 3 pages that I think get a lot of traffic (including the index.html page the ExtremeTracking code is on). The ExtremeTracking code is only on the index.html page.
ET shows about 50<hits<90 per day. GA shows 0 hits. Anyone have any idea WTF is going on? Why would ET be tracking up to 90 unique hits per day to the same page GA is tracking 0 hits to? GA says the code is correctly installed. What gives? |
I used to use http://web-stat.com/
It worked pretty good, but I haven't been involved in this stuff in a while thankfully. |
GA doesnt show any hits unless you pay for Google Adwords.
just kidding. in GA, it's good to filter out your IP address so your hits dont count. |
Wayne does.

I set up my main work site for GA a few weeks ago, but had not used it much -- I figured I'd let some meaningful stats accumulate before I go and experiment a bit.

I use google analytics. It's actually very powerful. Problem is Google dumbed down the FAQ's.
What you are working with is actually a product named Urchin. Google bought them. Urchin starts at $900 and can reach into the thousands depending on the modules that you want to use. Analytics is really a pretty sweet deal. For better docs go here, http://www.google.com/support/urchin45/ There is a series of free training webcasts for Analytics coming up, http://www.roirevolution.com/index.htm Scott |
At my day job, we use Fireclick which absolutley crushes goog analytics IMO....however FC is $$$ and GA is free. I too use GA for my own personal sites and it is obviously the best choice for free stats.
However, there are fundamental issues I have with GA and Google in general collecting as much SHOPPER information they can. GA, the google toolbar, google optimizer et al provide google with insane amounts of information about people's web shopping choices which google can use to make adwords even more effective for google shareholders and less so for adwords advertisers. The equivalent of showing your shop's receipts to the landlord... |
