Best unbiased political coverage?
 

I have watched the various channels for a while and their coverage of many different political events. I came to the conclusion last night that there is a very limited choice when it comes to genuinely unbiased coverage.

By this I don't mean having a one hour program with a presenter that is clearly biased in one direction, then 'balancing' that with the next program where the presenter goes to the other extreme.

To my mind, and please correct me if I am wrong, that is the great way to encourage this "I vote Republican" or "I vote Democrat" attitude. Surely a truly unbiased coverage should have a presenter who does not express his/her views, but presents the story without an opinion? Surely that can't be too hard for a professional journalist.

So which program offers the best genuinely unbiased reporting?

Of course, I have my opinion but in the interests of being unbiased I won't express it, :D

Probably wouldn't be my first choice. But then I haven't watched anymore of it than what gets shown on a biased news program. ;)

I'm partial to MSNBC. Not perfect by any means, but compared to CNN on one side and Fox on the other, I rarely find myself saying, "these *******s aren't journalists, they're advocates!" when watching MSNBC.

I noticed last night that most stations had a certain aire of excitement about predictions coming true and a Democratic take over. Conflict creates news, I think they were wetting their shorts about possible Impeachment but everyone was afraid to use the "I-word".

I am of the opinion that there is no non-partisan news. Media these days does not report the news, they create the news. They hype things up to such a frenzy that they influence the way the viewers think. I believe people are not as free-thinking as they think they are. This is not limited to politics, but also the economy, real estate, and other markets as well.

The Democatic charge was definitely influenced by the media, and the media definitely was excited about its successful influence on the voters last night.

Not saying people are drones, but if you keep hearing something day in and day out, you may begin to think in that direction.

I will use an argument from the Democratic side to supoort my opinion. Think Rush Limbaugh and the claims of mindless followers. There is some truth to the charge, but only for a small portion of the audience. Limbaugh, on the other hand, is not really media in the sense of news, he is merely an entertainer.

Point is, the influence can go both ways, but I think the "news" should be truly nonpartisan.

I saw Jack Welch being interviewed by Neil Cavoto and by Charlie...Jack didn't give up ***** to Neil but Charlie got some respect...

I agree. TV is not to be trusted for news nowadays. You have to read the newspapers and the journals. TV is about advertising and entertainment--ratings and profit. Those negative ads TV profits from are shameful.

I find Imus the most entertaining of the bunch--because he is so unpredictable--all over the map politically. He has a good heart, but is a bit too full of himself, as most "mediots" are these days.

The basic problem is too much 'news' coverage isn't. It is commentary. On the Fox'news' Channel, over 90% of the day is commentary, not news. Bias in commentary is fine. Bias in news (story choice, slant, etc) is not fine in my book.

With the exception of calling itself the Fox 'news' Channel, they are at least honest in calling what they put out as opinion not news.

I used to think NBC was 'moderate' but they are not.

CNN International - Oh Geez! MTV seemed less biased!

I think my wife has the right idea: Watch E! and only care about the celebrities!

Midterm Midtacular. Neutral as can be.

I watched Fox until about 2am last night. And while I would not call it unbiased, I can say it was honest - brutally honest at times. The various conservative guests and hosts spent much of the night ripping President Bush a new one. They were saying things I thought I'd never hear on Fox and pretty much blaming Bush for the whole mess (...well, most of it. They also had harsh words for the congressional ethics problems and spending). At one point Shepherd Smith turned to William Krystal and said, "Does the president understand that we are losing the war in Iraq?" Krystal replied with something vague like "I think so." And the dude from the National Review said flat out that Iraq was in the beginnings of a civil war and that Rummy needed to go.

Wow.

I thought I had accidentally tuned in to NPR. And at another point Shepherd Smith was ranting about Iraq and said, "The administration said we'd have a new strategy after the election. Why after the election? Well " and then he threw his pen in the air " now it's after the election so where is the plan?"

It was fascinating to watch.

ABC gets my vote for unbiased political coverage

Brit Hume and Fred Barnes, along with Charles Krouthammer are some of my favorites to Watch. Dick Morris is an amazing fountain of reality, which no one seems to want to accept! I agree with Tabs on Charlie Rose.

You can take Bill O'Reilly, Hannity and Combs, Greta V and flush them! And they can take Rush and Al Franken with them.

What network is Charlie Rose on? Does he have a regular show?

Rodeo...PBS at 11 PM...at least out here in the West...
