'60 Minutes' reporter Ed Bradley dies

I liked Bill. To me he was one of the more respectable personalities. Died of the same disease and at the same age as my mom. Leukemia is a real bastard.

NEW YORK - Ed Bradley, the award-winning CBS newsman who has been a correspondent for "60 Minutes" since 1981, died Thursday. He was 65.

Bradley died of leukemia at Mount Sinai, CBS News announced.

Bradley's consummate skills as a broadcast journalist and his distinctive body of work were recognized with numerous awards, including 19 Emmys, the latest for a segment that reported the reopening of the 50-year-old racial murder case of Emmett Till.

Bradley grew up in a tough section of Philadelphia, where he once recalled that his parents worked 20-hour days at two jobs apiece. "I was told, `You can be anything you want, kid,'" he once told an interviewer. "When you hear that often enough, you believe it."

Very sad. Too, too bad. The amazing thing is that Mike Wallace is 90 and going strong! And he used to smoke like a chimney!

Sad. He did a lot of Jazz broadcasting as well, I listened to him all the time on WBGO.

RIP.

I was long an admirer, but my lasting memory will unfortunately be his truly shameful 60 Minutes segment about the non-existent "unintended acceleration" issues with the Audi 5000 in the mid '80's.

There was never a proper retraction for that bit of (later proven to be staged) slander that almost killed Audi in the US.
