Let's Go For a Walk

First, the tram ride up to the trailhead:

nostatic 11-09-2006 03:07 PM

that made me ill just looking at the pictures...

I'll make sure not to go there next week.

stomachmonkey 11-09-2006 03:07 PM

Oh hell no.

I have a SEVERE problem with heights. Not afraid of them at all. I just get this really strong urge to jump.

Scott

Directions: So you make a left turn....

Antisocial refuge.

teenerted1 11-09-2006 03:18 PM

i was wondering where those locks went. wonder if they want the keys?

Icemaster 11-09-2006 03:21 PM

Reminds me of climbing Mt. Champlain in Acadia in Maine.

Only about 100 times smaller.

Seahawk 11-09-2006 03:22 PM

The tram ride is more frightening...

goat 11-09-2006 03:28 PM

Good grief.

I don't run into very many people who understand this, but it looks like you do. And the best reason for the urge I can come up with is "because I can." For this reason, I might be agreeable to go onto the flat roof of a very tall building, but I won't go to the edge.

Scooter 11-09-2006 03:45 PM

I get the same feeling....very strange.

dd74 11-09-2006 03:57 PM

Well, friggin' fantastic! Each time I turn on my computer, I'll now have vertigo!

Thanks.

Some acrophobics also suffer from urges to throw themselves off high places, despite not being suicidal.

Scooter 11-09-2006 04:01 PM

I'm 5' tall, I just have a fear of being tall. ;)

Porsche-O-Phile 11-09-2006 04:04 PM

Reminds me of the cables on Half Dome at Yosemite. Pretty fun.

Yeah, but you photograph taller.

BTW, Scott: remember I was asking about your Boxster for a friend at work? Well, she bought (or leased) a new Bimmer roadster instead. I actually can't stand the car. It's black and ugly - in fact phallic in its ugliness.

But I guess some girls are into that. :D

Jumping wouldn't be the problem.

Reaching the bottom and stopping - that's the bit that's tricky.

I've heard that some sky divers/base jumpers fail to open their chutes for no apparent reason/malfunction. Perhaps this might explain it?

Jeff Higgins 11-09-2006 04:29 PM

I'm hoping one of our world travelling Pelicans can tell us more about this. Like where the hell it is. So I don't ever go there.

I'm worried that it might be in China. I get to see plenty of mechanical components that have come out of China and they are scary. the thought of walking over something like that, if it's made to the same standards, is terrifying.

I think I know someone we could send over to check it out....

He'll be too bow-legged to fit on the walkway by the time Kurt V is done with him.

Aerkuld 11-09-2006 05:16 PM

If he finds that he doesn't fit on the walk-way then that's fine by me!

I just hope he's part way across at the time.

stuartj 11-09-2006 05:24 PM

What about the schmucks that carried the building materials up there. Wow.

jriera 11-09-2006 07:28 PM

Mt. Huashan (Hua mountain) near Xian in China (http://www.dreamshangrila.com/scenery/huamt.html)

Dantilla 11-09-2006 07:39 PM

Sorry to disagree, but I think that looks like fun!

masraum 11-09-2006 08:01 PM

I have to agree, that looks like a freakin' blast. Damn! I need to visit China.

cantdrv55 11-09-2006 09:32 PM
