You can ship anything but depending on what it is, it may be difficult with the customs. High value items they tend to take longer and the receiver has to pay high duty on the package.

I have shipped items to friends there and usually its parts that they paid for themselves. As I am not receiving any funds from them I send the package marked gift and that seems to help. The US mail works fine, as does FedEx, UPS or DHL if it needs to go fast.

i found Fedex better with customs.. but dunno if that translates equally to the UK... some parts are tax excempt...some shippers will label it as "warranty return" or "antique 2nd hand car parts"... customs generally don't check the contents, they just check the label...

You can't track international using the USPS. If you have to write a dollar amount for value on it, undervalue it. I made that mistake- sent my Dad a watch and put the real value on it- he had to pay a fortune in excise duty. I would suggest UPS- they have a pretty good network in the UK.

You would normally have to state the value of the items, and this is where UK import duties come in to play. I always send stuff with 'no commercial value' or 'samples not for resale' or something of this nature. If however the part is expensive then insurance is a must.

I've sent stuff via US mail all over the world and never had a problem - the last package only took a couple of days - quicker than sending items in the UK. A brit based in the US |
