visiting LA- need reccommendations for food / music

Hey anybody out there ?, Im in LA for this evening and need some recommendations for good spots to check out food and live music. Im a music junkie so anything is of interest to me except for Bette Middler tribute bands or that hard core death metal stuff. Im from Oakland / SF down here for a visit to check out the Getty with my girlfriend.

Hip spot for good food would be appreciated as well, looking for slightly upper end as in no burger joints or the like but no suit and tie places either.

Im 33, if that helps anybody make a decision

maybe NOSTATIC has some insight on the music scene-

Thanks in advance, Jeff NOV 10

Check out LA Weekly for your taste in music, chances are its listed there.

As far as food goes, we have everything you can imagine. If you're coming from the Getty and going North, try Simon's on Sepulveda just South of Ventura, its excellent Moroccan food with a French twist.

Good Japanese and Korean food can be found on Sawtelle Blvd between Snata Monica & Olympic Blvds. There are Sushi, Ramen, BBQ, Continental Japanese, Shabu Shabu, Curry, and Yakitori restaurants. Hong Kong Cafe has excellent Chinese food (tasty but not on the level of House of Nanking).

In Westwood, try Shamshiri Grill for excellent Persian food, really superb flame grilled meats, good stews, tasy rice dishes.

A little more upscale, try Beacon (Pan-Asian) or Bistro de l'Hermitage (French) in Culver City.

LA is a huge place. Depends where you are. For food, depends what kind of food and your budget.
