You may recall that Germany still has the largest conventional military in Europe. I think they can fend for themselves too. But last time Rumsfeld mentioned moving some bases from Germany to Poland, the Germans begged him to reconsider. Now they're suing him?

No, let's just close them and bring the equipment back, and release the soldiers early.

It's two very different groups of Germans.
1) The Germans who wanted the US bases kept there are the locals who are employed on the bases, or who's local economies depend on the bases.

2) The Germans who are suing Rumsfeld are the German equivelents of Rep. Pelosi -- they have an axe to grind with Bush and Rumsfeld is just a handy surigate.
