Off to the north woods....

Headed to the upper peninsula of Michigan for deer hunting. We will be about 5 miles outside Crystal Fall Michigan.

Beautiful area to hunt, nice cabin on a lake, with a good group. Plenty of whiskey and wine to loosen the tongue. I like hunting with these guys. Fun at night, but serious hunters. They go all day, and hunt hard.

No cell phone service, no internet connection.

Best part is seeing my old man. We live a 1000 miles apart and I don't get to see him as much as I would like. I fly into Detroit, then we drive up there in his Ford 350 diesel. A nice 8 hours of drinking coffee and shooting the breeze with that diesel pulling like a train.

I mentioned this before here, but my dad hunts with a Mauser rifle taken off a dead German soldier in 1945. My great uncle was in the war, and he was fighting in Bastogne. He picked up the rifle, and sawed off the barrel and stock, and sent the action home to my grand father (there were size limitation on what you could send). My grand father had it rebarreled in 30-06, new stock, and hunted with it every year until he died. Took many deer with it. Now my dad hunts with the gun. And some day, I will to.

I absolutely adore that area. It's so beautiful. I've stayed in Iron River several times (close to Crystal Falls). Lake Stanley. I've visited Crystal Falls each time too.
