A little OT but my best friend in this whole world was promoted to officer in the south Vietnamese army when he was 16.
He doesn't talk about it much but a few times he's told me a little bit about what it was like, it gives me nightmares and I am not making that up. I thank God I never had to live through something like that, and I thank those who did so that I didn't have to.

From an earlier post regarding those who pay the ultimate price on the field of battle:

May these men be remembered for their honor and strength in a world of weakness; for their compassion and morality in a world of vice and their sacrifice in a world of pomposity and self-importance. Rest in peace, brave soldiers; your battles are over and you have carried the day.

Wow, thanx bro.

It sounds cheesy, but vets and troops(esp. troops) REALLY appreciate a simple thank you, so much so that the feeling of pride and fulfillment one gets is almost beyond words.

So again man, on behalf of all vets and troops everywhere, Thank you.

And to the true heros, i give my humblest thanks.

You will never grow old, and you will forever live in our hearts.

Charlie mike.

Churchill (though he had his faults) said it best: "Never in the field of human conflict, has so much been owed by so many to so few." and "And wherever men are fighting against barbarism, tyranny, and massacre, for freedom, law, and honour, let them remember that the fame of their deeds, even though they themselves be exterminated, may perhaps be celebrated as long as the world rolls round."

You know what they say, we did what we did for the guy to the left and to the right.

It's easy when that guy is as kind to a fellow brother in arms as you are.

I'm a veteran, but I have never considered veterans day to be "for me". To me, it was always to honor those who served in combat (or combat by other names), those who fell in their service, and especially those MIA who never came back at all.

My service, though honorable, was unremarkable. Do not honor me.

Too bad, your service is honor enough. And if you disagree, then I'll honor your intent to be brave

For me , the first time I knew I was under fire was the first time I was ever afraid in an aircraft.

Getting up the next day, getting ready to launch, knowing the same thing may happen again, was the second time.

So it goes, so it went, though honorable, was unremarkable.

I have a feeling that the veterans of Iraq are going to make a huge impact in the years to come. Let's honor them.

I agree with the sailor, veterans day is for all the troops.

When and where shots get traded is not really up to us, so anyone that serves does so with the very real possiblity that someday we will get blown to many small pieces.

So IMO the day applies to all troops past and present.
