Nostatic,

Why do you think the FW-190 was better than the P-51. We are entering for the first time my territory. I have been quiet until now. My position is the P-51 was faster and as maneuverable and carried three times the fuel. The NACA airfoil was a semi to almost full symmetrical low aspect ratio airfoil that reduced dynamic drag coefficients by ~50%. What I mean is the airframe aerodynamically is very efficient and is very modern. Edgar Schmued the designer was a Bavarian born physicist and aerodynamicist. He recognized the necessity of flush riveting and boundary separation. His ram air heat exchanger under the wing is known to increase air velocity and produce propulsion. The P-51 truly had the first jet class airframe. I cant rant the tech side for days but I believe the fw-190 was a great fighter but the mustang has finer points in range and and the dynamics that were state of the art at that time. I saw in that thread, the ME-262 also known to be better, well if you can perform your sortie and shoot down allot of enemy aircraft in 25 minutes..Thats all the flight time they had. Take a P-51, strip the armor and unnecessary items and fly high above the formation and dive on a 262, it couldn't get away and way no way as maneuverable. tail them home shoot it up on landing and kill the pilot...Yep The airforce instructed our pilots to take them out. You wont find that written anywhere but I heard it from the pilots themselves. I like to talk airplanes..

My .04 cents

Robert, you'll have to try WAY harder to get the "argumentative" label. I'm always ready to learn. And until that happens, argue.

"Boinking" is a technical term. Similar to "spunk." They can easily be used in the same sentence. Yes, I think you are on board with this.

Here are a few from the Canadain aviation museum. This is the third attempt to upload the photos!

Technologically best piston fighter? Probably Do 335 "Pfeil" or Hawker Tempest.

I think to be considered 'the best', the fighter needs to.......be in actual production and in service (both are suspect) - I dont know if this plane even had one kill. The US actually produced more of these than the Germans did :)
