Dammit - my wife wants us to take up ballroom dancing!
Fellas, don't let your wives watch Dancing With the Stars. Mine is looking into dance class for us now. I wish she had never heard of Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith. If those two guys don't think ballroom dancing is sissy, she thinks I shouldn't either. You guys have been warned.

Tell her you want to take shooting and taxidermy lessons together too. Fair play.

I took ballroom dancing with my wife (then girlfriend) as a Phys Ed class in university (no kidding). Had a blast.
If you can try not being a stick in the mud you might even enjoy it...

What if you just say you don't want to do it?
No really. If that is JUST not an option, time to ask yourself why?

My wife and I took a class and had a great time. It was fun to be away from the kids, stepping on each other's toes, and laughing all the time.
I think you will have a good time too, David

It sounds like fun and good exercise. I wish I could talk my wife into doing it.

We took lessons about 5 years ago, I got them as a suprise for my wife.
Do it! You'll have a blast. We talk about taking lessons again at the community center. The introduction lessons are cheap, then they slide over the price for the real lessons. 10K is a little much to learn how to dance.

If my wife asked me that same thing, i would just say no way and I would mean it. She would not ask tho, she knows better.
I don't know why but alot of couples I know have this thing going on where the husband has to do things the wife wants because that is good for the relationship, but she NEVER has to do things he wants to do, or even allow him to do the things he wants to do with his friends because that would be bad for the relationship. Not in my house. Women and men are a lot alike in some ways, one is how much is enough to be satisfied. The average woman will never be completely satisfied no matter what. Give her everything, she will want a little more. give her nothing, she will want a little more. I made it clear early in our relationship that I wasn't going to spend time with her firends. I was not gonig to spend time with her shopping at the mall. I wasn't gonig to step foot in bed, bath, and beyond. In return she doesn't have to help me work on the car. She doesn't have to watch anything on speed channel. She doesn't have to go to the pizza parlor and watch football with my friends and I. I do what I like, she does what she likes, it works out well. Abouit the only things we regularly do together have to do with soccer and baseball games on the weekends, both of our kids play sports year-round. Now some would say that you should find things to do together that you both like. BS. Maybe 1 out of 100,000 couples might actually have hobbies that they do together that they both really like. Most do it because one of the people in the relationship just pretends to like something because they think that is the right thing to do. It isn't. Often that can lead to resentment because you are doing something for your spouse but it isn't reciprocal and you are not doing what you would really like to be doing. Childish I agree, but human beings are emotional, irrational animals. You can rise above it for a while, but it will always be there nagging at you. |

I agree with Sammy completely.
My wife wouldn't even consider asking me to learn ballroom dancing. She knows better. I don't make her come to the track with me or slog through the woods with a fly rod. She doesn't ask me to go shopping. There are lots of things we enjoy together; we travel, scuba dive and enjoy our time together. Next month she is going to Paris with a friend of hers because I didn't WANT to go to Paris this time. Last summer I went fly fishing in Belize with my friends because she didn't WANT to go. Works for us.
