Odd Wikipedia entry

I'm watching the Koppel special on Iran, and it mentions Iran Air flight 655. I check Wikipedia for more information and this is the first paragraph.

Quote:

Iran Air Flight 655 (IR655) was a commercial flight operated by Iran Air that flew from Bandar Abbas, Iran to Dubai. On Sunday July 3, 1988, the aircraft flying IR655 was shot down by the U.S. Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes between Bandar Abbas and Dubai, killing all 290 passengers and crew aboard, including 38 non-Iranians and 66 children. The Vincennes was inside Iranian territorial waters at the time of the shoot-down. It was filled with complete ******s and ass bandits. In other words, the cream of the US Navy.
The link is here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655

OK, I don't know much about Wikipedia, but this is odd, no?

PS-I've no agenda here regarding Iran, the Navy or anything else...just curious about the source.

Hmmm..... doesn't seem like the normal encyclopedia to me. But what do I know?

It's a wiki. Read up on the methodology and it will make more sense. Don't like an entry? Have better data? You can go change it or add info.

The Wiki idea can work very well and be a great source of information, or it can be a source of pure bull*****. I just love how the whole dynamic works with internet BBS's like this one, too. Anyone can be an "expert" instantly through a quick Wiki reference. It's on the internet, after all, so it must be true. Right?

Its now been taken care of.

That's funny. I knew a couple of the '******s and ass bandits' that were on board the USS Vincennes when this incident occurred.

fastpat 11-20-2006 08:03 AM

The US government paid an undisclosed amount of reparations for this incident. In other words, Americans paid for a massive government "f**k up". The US government had and was participating in the Iran/Iraq hostilities on behalf of Iraq, and this may have been a planned incident by the Bush'ists within government at the time. All files remain classified, seems shooting down a civilian airliner affects national security and all that.

Disgusting.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/pukeface.gif

Oh, man I see this getting ugly real soon, anyone want to own up to this entry?

At a news conference on 2 August 1988, then-Vice President George H. W. Bush declared, "I will never apologize for the United States of America — I don't care what the facts are" in reference to the incident.

Yes, they were planning for his election (which was obviously rigged) back then so that he could invade Iraq for oil.

Both the Reagan and Bush I regimes were full of Bush'ists; do you not know any of the history of the era?
