Buck Season opened today...crazy!

Some really crazy stuff happening today. Bucks running out of the woods into warehouses and clearing out all the employeees. One buck jumped out of the woods and through a windshield and out the back window af a pickup driving down the highway killing the driver instantly. Crazy stuff. I went into a sporting goods store yesterday and it looked like the scene at the harbor in Jaws! Walmart had a whole pallet of 30-06 ammo on the sales floor. I wouldn't go out in the woods today on a dare. I kept my dogs in all day. Just nuts! Tonight on the news I'm sure we will hear of a bunch accidental shootings.

I was thinking Dick Cheeney.

I was up in North Carolina for the Dragon Meet and was suprised to see so many out hunting Bear.

Thats pretty funny, Buck fever. So what is the hunter to Buck ratio?

I heard they took 10,000 deer last year. PA issues 500,000 licenses.

So would that make it :
Deer 50
Hunters 1

I think the deer are winning. Hell they come within hand gun range on my spread.

Now is a good time for that "walk" in the woods with the troublesome wife or girlfriend wearing the new hat you gave her.

She wouldn't last 5 minutes, and somebody would tag her too, not knowing the difference.

Sure it is:

Get your license - 5 minutes

Buy slugs for the 12GA - $5

Get a map of public hunt zones - free

Orange vest and cap - $20

Away you go.

I've hunted for years and never taken a shot, don't care to unless it's a monster. I enjoy the nature and silence.

I'm with Lendaddy. I enjoy the yearly armed hike.

Dad got a doe last season in his backyard with a compound bow. One shot -- straight through the neck. It fell about 10 yards from where it was hit. That was the shot of a lifetime for my dad.

+1 I do have a bunch of friends that love it, so I allow them to set up stands on the farm. They get about five deer in the various seasons here in Maryland. I get Black Powder guys, bow guys, knife in the teeth guys...!

Best of all, my exorbitant fee is a cut of venison should they get a deer.

In Missouri last year the hunters got over 100,000 deer and the damn things are still running around everywhere.

I'm in the Pittsburgh area and know how crazy the start of buck season
is around here. Personally, not a hunter.
Was driving home last night and saw a buck head hanging out of the trunk of an older two door Saturn.
Can't believe he got it in the trunk/back seat.
Looked like that deer was sticking it's tongue out at drivers.

The reason it is so crazy is PA is the season is so short. Two weeks for gun season. People will take the entire two weeks off to hunt. Add that with the fact that they have a huge deer population in that state and people are crazy. I know a girl who went to high school in PA and they used to close the high school for the opening day of deer season because so many teachers and students would be out sick there was no reason to have school.

The thing to do would be find that one hunting item that every deer hunter must have and sell it. Oodles and oodles of money is being made in the hunting industry right now because of all those can't live withouts, scent blocking clothes and gum being my favorites. Older guys hunted in jeans and plaid flannel shirts, now you have to have scent blocking underwear and chew gum to make your breath smell like deer urine to get a deer. Yeah right, if only I had thought of that gum gimick though.

Hunting is a lot of fun, the work begins when you're successful at hunting, and killing.

Messing, stinking work.

You need a very sharp skinning knife, possibly a paring or caping knife; rubber gloves are a plus, better yet get someone that's field dressed a deer before show you how it's done.
