It was a $80k WRX

Take a look at this $80k WRX, and then scroll down to take a look at what used to be an $80k WRX.

...you mean a $20,000 WRX with $80k into it. :)

...all that money and they still can't put harnesses on right. :D

masraum 11-21-2006 11:31 AM

That must hurt. I'm guessing the ins company won't cover the $80k.

I'm guessing probably not as the owner probably didn't want to pay the premiums that went with an $80k vehicle.

I know those cars are stupid fast, but for the love of god, they are stupid ugly.

Mud fence ugly, ugly on an ape ugly, ugly you can't drink away ugly...

skipdup 11-21-2006 12:26 PM

that'll buff out...

David McLaughlin 11-21-2006 12:34 PM

Why?
Why would anyone (in their right mind or not) put $80k into a car like that? For $80k, wouldn't you atleast put in a proper welded in cage that fits AND proper fire equipment?

RallyJon 11-21-2006 01:18 PM

It's a "show car" which seems to mean hang all sorts of crap on the car to impress boys in baggy pants.

His mistake was confusing show car with street racer.

Proper welded in cage? Be happy it was metal rather than PVC. :D

the 11-21-2006 01:21 PM

Fried rice!!

widebody911 11-21-2006 01:23 PM

I could have built one helluva 911 track weapon for $80k...

BlueSkyJaunte 11-21-2006 01:46 PM

I could have built one helluva Hyundai track weapon for $80k!

Totally agree.
But we might be track minded.... and a wee bit smart on safety.

911boost 11-21-2006 02:46 PM

Why are you guys all ragging on my WRX?

rammstein 11-21-2006 03:05 PM

I think the WRX is a sweet little ride. Very powerful, and useful for those living in the hell I left behind me (the northeast).

That said, $80k into one doesn't make very much sense. I actually doubt he put that much in- where did it go? I mean, figure it:

Stupid Loud Stereo: $4000
Turbo Stage 11 kit: $12000
Suspension: $4000
Brakes: $3000
Cage: $1000
wiggity wheels: $4000
Racing seats: $1000
NOS: $2000

That is all grotesquely overpriced I think, and it only adds up to $31,000. How do we get to 80k?

rammstein 11-21-2006 03:06 PM

And, IMO, the WRX is cool looking- although I like the older generation with the round lights. The newer one tries to be pretty- the older one was totally in my face.

Small denomination, non-sequential, unmarked bills and a few packets of white powder under the back seat?

911boost 11-21-2006 03:10 PM

I think the fresh air intake for the driver cut into the roof is hella sweet.

Nostril Cheese 11-21-2006 03:19 PM

all that time and money and no fire extinguisher.

The owner deserves to burn as much as that car did. idiot

nostatic 11-21-2006 03:22 PM

that's a lot of crack and whores

Burnin' oil 11-21-2006 03:46 PM

Crackin' whores, Grommit!

Jims5543 11-21-2006 04:22 PM

You guys all know how easy it is the eat through money building a car. Sometimes I cry when I think of what I have invested in my RX-7. Its over 50K counting 2 enigne rebuilds, with the last one coming in at close to 9K. (It better make a buttload of power!!)

There is a member of this forum spending in the 150K range on a rediculas build up car so 80K, yeah I believe it. Especially if he dipped into the engine.

Anyone know exactly what happened to that WRX?

911boost 11-21-2006 04:23 PM

I read the post and it sounded like a fuel line burst.

rouxroux 11-21-2006 04:32 PM

The problem was he stopped and let all the smoke out...They don't run well when you let the smoke out...

I really don't doubt the $80K claim. Hell, I've seen and touched car audio systems ALONE worth $80K. Granted, this isn't one of them:) but I think $4,000 is a little on the low side, especially if he had a real pro do it.

He probably didn't do much of it himself, which means he paid someone else to take it all apart and do it, which I'm sure adds up the ol' Bens rather quickly.

Maybe they are factoring the $30K sticker price into the $80K? That makes it even more believable.

Perhaps the tranny has been re-worked. IIRC, the WRX models have crappy trannies and clutches that don't stand up to lots of power or clutch dumps. Tranny work == $$$$$.

Is that dash and gauge pod setup stock? If not, tack on more for that. When my brother worked at United Audio he took out the passenger air bag, build a gauge pod (carbon fiber I think?) that faced the driver, and had the pad that normally blows off when the airbag fires on electronically accuated shocks. Interior looked completely stock, until he hit a button and the gauge cluster opened up from the passenger area. Things like that add up.

I like the ignition and start switches...

Showcar or not, I'd be pissed if my car burnt up, no matter how money I spent on it.

Jims5543 11-21-2006 04:45 PM

You spend all that money and you do not have a Halon system?

Yep - I noticed that too. The way it was setup, it was downright dangerous. In a hit, compression of the spinal column would likely occur.

Tim Walsh 11-22-2006 03:17 AM

between the harness and the untriangulated cage it's definitely not a track car.

Mr Beau 11-24-2006 05:30 AM

Is there a mirror--none of the pics work due to bandwidth being exceeded.
