Good luck but my bet is you will not finish it (but I hope you do).

THREAD: RESURRECTED!

Actually, funny story - as I got neck-deep in my Master's Thesis, I put the book down after 200 pages. After I finished my thesis and wrote my first book (due in stores in late summer/early fall this year), I decided to buy a paperback of AGAINST THE DAY so I didn't have to lug around (and ruin) the 1st edition hardcover. I'm almost done with the book, on the 2nd attempt.

Nothing to be ashamed of; it took me 3 times to get through GRAVITY'S RAINBOW.

Mark my knotches with 1300+ pages books. War and Peace was a wonderful thing to read and took me about 1 week. I couldn't put it down.

Stephen King unfortunately would always piss me off with the way he ends the last 200 pages of his long stories.

"Great Expectations" by Dickins was the biggest not that "Great" ;)

Thinking about somethign Japanese? Try Natsumi Soseki's "Kokoro" interesting way he puts the story together. Stay away from the Japanese Nobel writers ... not that interesting or just plainly psychotic ;)

Some of my favorites that I've read more than 3 times.
@ The Art of War by SunTzu -- haven't really learned how to apply it to business yet though ;)
@ Dale Carenigie's "How to influence people and make friends" -- should be manadatory HS reading.
@ ok,ok, don't laugh -- Kiyosaki's "Cashflow Quadrant" ... this has helped me put some good deals together. Author is a bit sketchy though ...

I am anxious to begin AGAINST THE DAY, but am afraid it will cut too much into my work on my Master's thesis...

--I'd think that would be lower on your list with Opening Day for the GREATEST TEAM EVER, that's right, the Boston Red Sox, having just passed.

The way I see it, you've got about a week to finish it before Manny and Ortiz start crushing it!

(I grew up in Boston but now I have my check directly deposited to Sonny Mclean's)

I was thinking of posting a thread for book recommendations. Glad I found this.

I need to wade into some deeper waters here soon :)

So does anyone have any good recommendations? I tend to prefer fiction and stay away from biographies. Philosophy is ok too, but I am new to it. Let me know.
