MB To Bring BLUETEC Diesel In ML To US?

Can anyone (Z-man?) confirm that Mercedes Benz will be offering their BLUETEC Diesel in the M Class in the US? I know it will be in the E Class, I just read it will be in the M and R Class over here as well. If so, when will we be seeing it (2007 or 2008 model year)? TIA

Thanks. I don't know where I have been.

Wife is due for a new vehicle, I think diesel is the way to go. I am not a fan of the current MB's, but not much choice for diesels right now.

That is not the "bluetec" diesel in the MB, but the CDI. The E320 that comes in 2007 will drop the CDI suffix in favor of Bluetec. Even with this, the new Bluetec diesel V-6 doesn't use urea injection; it therefore cannot meet emissions standards in CA and other similar states. The urea-injected Bluetec diesel with debut in the GL, R, and ML class, which would all be 50 state compliant in 2008. Still, an improved engine, if you don't happen to live in CA.

If those MBs are in your (desired) price range, I think that they would be a great choice and hold excellent resale value. Diesels in general do not depreciate like gas vehicles, especially SUVs. If someone truly wants an SUV, these are a no-brainer IMO.

What would really be cool is if MB anticipates the great residual value and offers some smoking lease deals. They would not even have to be chintzy w/ the miles requirement, used diesels w/ miles still hold good resale.

EDIT: Typed my post at same time as 89's; bummer about CA. (as usual).

I thought it was too good to be true. This country is too busy with hybrids and Ethanol (a real joke).

Denis I see you have F250 PSD. I got one in June mainly for a tow vehicle.

Ray,

I have the same truck. Biggest POS I've ever purchased. I'm keeping my eye on the E-Series Bluetec to see how they look.

Yep - the ML Blutec will arrive in early 2007. No urea injection - yet... I think they are planning on bringing it in as well, ASAP. but they are working on that as well.

Oh, and all of these new diesels will NOT have CDI or diesel badging - only blutec, to help distance the car from the notion we American's have about the dirty, noisy, stinky diesels. So if you see a Merc that's labelled CDI, it's not a Blutec.

motion,

Oh no. So far it's been fine less than 3k miles, crossed fingers. I got it because I didn't want the first of their new low sulpher diesel engine, that has been delayed.

FYI, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will get a MB turbodiesel in 2007 or 2008. Honda, Dodge, and Ford are rumored to have diesels in the pipeline, and some say Toyota will offer a diesel engine in their Tundra sometime in the future. More options is good.

I think by 2010 the US and CA will have some good daily driver diesels to choose from finally. I just would like to get something sooner.

Richard, What kind of problems have you had w/ your truck? What year is it? 6.0 PSD? Sorry to hear that, I have heard of problems w/ the 6.0 but at least the warrantee is good on those unless you've chipped it. (Hopefully not).

Ray, if you haven't modded it yet, I recommend leaving your truck stock to maintain the 100k drivetrain warrantee.

Beth and I are looking forward to the Bluetec "E" to replace her current "C". I think people who jump in too fast are going to have issues finding fuel at first. These cars can't handle the older fuel and have to run the ultra low.
We made a 1k trip a couple of weeks ago and only saw 1 "E-Deisel" sign. (bummer) Also havn't seen any here in central Va.
The Star has been running alot of articles on these engines as of late, and I like what I see, I can't wait for the new line.

No mods and probably won't do any. I have been reading on a couple of the Ford truck boards about problems before I got it. Seems like the problems are hit and miss. A friend had a '99 F350 diesel no problems and replaced it with a 2006 F250. Shortly afterwards I got my 2007 F250, basically the same truck. I understand Ford has had problems with their new diesel engine and decided to delay it. The new diesel will be in the updated Super Duty series, as I understand it.

Rick; In California the low sulpher diesel supposidly started in October at the pumps.

Ray,

I hope yours treats you better than mine did

Mine is a 2004 6.0PSD 4x4 super crew lariat xlt long bed. Its been in the shop 21 times and has 29k miles on it. Everything from oil leaks to turbos to transmissions, ecus, warped brakes, etc. etc. I'm working with Ford right now to have them buy it back from me. Mine has mostly highway miles. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of problems I'd be having if I actually towed something heavier than a 300lb bike with it.

There is your problem right there. Basically ALL of the early 6.0s were garbage, but of course how were you supposed to know that back in '04, (or '03)? The '05 and later are a lot better from what I've heard, and of course you get a great warrantee as long as you leave it stock under the hood.

If I ever had to buy another one of these diesel trucks, I would definitely lean towards a Chevy Duramax w/ the Alison transmission. They are just amazing, so quiet and fast + trouble free AFAIK. This coming from a lifelong Ford truck guy.

Yeah, its junk all right.... thanks for reminding me, Denis

My old '93 F150 never missed a beat... same body as your '99 F250, I believe? SHould have never sold that one. I'm not a big Chevy fan, having owned a new Suburban that was also a complete piece of crap. I hate to say this, but I will probably look at a 5 year old Tundra to replace the F250 once its gone.
