When I bought a 944 turbo several years ago, a cop friend asked if I would like to get in a high-speed chase with him. We would go see what the cars could do, then he would make sure he couldn't catch me. It would be in a rural area late at night so no other law enforcement would be close.
I said no. I'll go play on the race track, where it's safe. Cops are human too. Why wouldn't they want to race now and then? |

Funny. A former friend of mine has a show-stopping, magazine cover-type '69 Z-28 clone w/ a 427 and the big cowl induction hood, basically a "best of everything" type car. That thing was a cop magnet like nothing you have ever seen, not for tickets, but because they would chase him through traffic to get a better look at it. LOTS of cops are gearheads.
They would pull up next to it and start asking questions; when they asked what it did in the 1/4 mile, he would reply, "wanna race?" ![]() ![]()
