"a christmas story"....

now that turkey day is past we are now moving towards christmas.....and with that comes the movie "a christmas story" with little ralphie.....scott farkas.....red rider bb guns and that damn frozen flag pole :D

the house this movie was filmed in was recently completed after going through a full restoration to put it back to the way it was in the movie, along with a museum to the movie which is located across the street.
it's grand opening was nov. 25, tomorrow michelle and i will be heading up to check it out......it's probably going to be packed......and i hate large groups of people....so we'll see how it goes :D
i'll have camera in hand to post some pics, wish me luck.......

here is a link to the house, it's renovation and such.

Classic Lines

That movie has a million of them. One of my favorites (or something close to it)

"My father worked in profanity the way an artist works in oils..."

Can't wait for the TBS 24 hour run; I watch it a few times each year.

The author was from the town I grew up in, an area called Hessville, part of Hammond....named after the settler Joseph Hess. Watching this movie is always an additional delight because of that.

That area where it was filmed was a great choice, it truly resembles the area I grew up.....

Griffith Panthers (Griffith is next to Hammond, that is the high school team)

Cleveland Street......

Warren G. Harding (that school was 5 or 6 blocks from my house, but there was another elementary school I went to right across the street)

"Hohman" (that's the name of the town in the movie, that's the name of the main street in downtown Hammond).

Bigbees (was Goldblatts.....one of the Goldblatt descendents works in my firm)

What else....???

Cool movie.

What is the name of The Lone Ranger's nephew's horse?

Simply the best Christmas movie ever.

The story is from Jean Shepard's "In God we trust, all others pay cash". Have had that line on my business card for years. Too bad there wasn't a Part II, the Fourth of July chapter was great.

Is that not the best saying ever?

Flicks is a bar in the area, was opened, I presume, by Flick. It's still there I believe (it was up to 5 years ago or so it was), but it has changed hands so many times...

They had that framed on the wall.

alrighty.....just got home

we ended up not going into the museum, we'll do that another day as we stood in line for about 1/2 hour and it barely moved, we're local so we'll hit that another day as now that it's done it'll be opened year round.

the weather was perfect today and non-seasonal for ohio, would've been a perfect drive for the 911 but knowing the area this is in we took the cr-v to avoid any problems in case it was way busy.

the house was neat....just like the movie :D
they had alot of old style "fixtures" but was obvious it was all "new"......but that doesn't really matter, as it's the actual house they filmed it in so it's all good :)

here are some pics.....the family pictures hanging on the walls throughout the house was a nice touch, along with some familiar props from the movie like the sofas, radio, sink etc.
overall it was a good time, a nice little bit of american pulp culture. i'll add more pics of the museum the next time we're up there sometime in the future :)

enjoy....

Does it have the correct Furnace?
If not I can sell them my F*****G BAS**RD G*DA*MED one!

We were only talking about the movie last night over dinner.
Last year one T.V. channel ran it non-stop for 24 hours!
We always sing "Deck the Harls wid Bows Of Horry, Far Ra Ra, Ra Ra,RaRa RaRA" while eating our Chinese Turkey.
