Online Music question

I want to buy an old Cat Stevens Album, 'TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN'. You can buy it on some of the online Music places but I want to know if those files are as usable to me as if I bought the CD and then ripped the tracks to Mp3s. I want to be able to make Music CD's for traveling and things.

I bought some on Napster and I can't listen too them now, unless I re-install Napster. I don't want to do that again.

Not a simple answer.

Pretty much anyone legit that sells music online will be required to have some sort of DRM, (copy protection) in place to satisfy the record labels.

I know that with the iTunes store you are "authorized" to use a purchased song on I think 5 machines.

But if you take the song and burn to a disc you effectively kill the DRM and can do whatever you please with it.

The other thing is if you are purchasing an MP3, the quality will be compromised severly or minimally depending on the bitrate used when converting to mp3.

Buy the CD, rip it yourself.

Simple answer,
Napster + tune-bite=liberated music to enjoy in your car.

some one has already been there and done that.
