Any CHEVY or GM DURAMAX Diesel fans here??? Info please :)
Just wondering if any pelicans are big fans of the DURAMAX diesel?
I rented a 2006 GM 2500HD 4x4 with the new allison 6speed trans to bring my 2.4"E" motor to the airport in a crate to FORWARD AIR shipping service for fellow Pelican.... the truck is simply unbelievable !!!!!!!! I cant get this truck off my mind.... 350HP and 650f/lbs of torque turned this 5900lbs slug of a truck almost into a sports car. I swear this thing pulls more G's to 60mph than any BMW I have ever owned..... 2nd and 3rd gears ram you into the seat, this thing has enough speed and power to put a BIG smile on my face and the damn thing almost feels agile.... just crazy. I have driving gas 6.0L Fords, chevs ect... and they were all dogs. If the gas motor is not screaming you aint moving. The duramax was turning 1600-1800rpm at 60-75mph and had loads of power. I am VERY interested in buying one and would love a 2006 with the brand new 6 speed allison trans but its waaaaaay out of budget..... A few questions- 1-what are the 2001 and 2002 duramax diesel's with the 5 speed allison trans like? 2- How do they compare to the new 2006? Here is a pic of the ![]() ![]() Thanks for reading ![]() Oh and I was just about 100% sure I was going to buy a 2000-2003 BMW/V8/X5 . I have never driving a BMW X5 but after the pickup man... I dont know anymore. |

I bought my dad a 2001 Chevy 2500HD Quadcab with the Duramax and I felt the same way you descibed when I drove it. I drove it down to give it to him and pulled the 911 to drive back. I couldn't tell I was pulling anything. The truck really impressed the hell out of me. My dad likes it also.
Also, I had a 4.4l X5 a couple years ago. They are very sporty SUVs and a blast to drive. I got rid of it because it was costing me more than a new car payment to keep it on the road every month in repair bills. Once it got to 70k miles all hell broke loose. Every window regulator broke. When that happens the window just falls down in the door. BMW charges $300 per to fix. That was the least of the repair bills. One time the engine fan clutch ceased and the fan exploded on the highway causing $5k in damage. Last edited by krichard; 11-30-2006 at 01:52 PM.. |

Dad has a 2004 Ford F350 supercab diesel. The power is just amazing. Up hill, 70mph with a huge Lance camper on the back, the thing barely labors. Its a beautiful truck.

Kind of overkill for transporting a 400lb. 911 engine, but what-the-hey. I have driven an'06 Duramax w/ the 6-speed Allison, and basically had the same impression. Actually I drove all 3 domestic diesel PUs back-to-back, and the Chevy was by far the fastest and quietest+ best trans. Most refined and an absolute bullet. Hard to believe that people chip those things, it is a speeding ticket waiting to happen in stock form.
The 5-speed Allison is supposedly just about as nice, I have heard that the '03 and newer models are preferable for their better injectors. I agree that the gas engines are pigs in comparison, but GM's newest gas V-8 is supposedly a powerhouse. |

There was a ZERO mile Duramax w/ the 6-speed Allison crate engine & tranny at the Turkey Rod Run for sale, $9K. Find a H1 with a blown engine & have some fun
